Position Summary

The Supply Chain Strategy and Project Management Office is reimagining CVS’s Supply Chain and Specialty Dispensing Environment to serve customers no matter where they are on their path to better health. The future of CVS’s Supply Chain will be simple, efficient and utilize the latest in automation. In order to execute transformation, investments of ~$140m annually will be allocated to build new and optimal infrastructure, systems and automation throughout the retail and specialty network.

The Project Automation Engineer will play a key role in executing our transformation strategy. This role will support the delivery of automation projects including new distribution centers or fulfillment nodes and large infrastructure overhauls in brownfield locations. Success in this role will hinge on the individual’s ability to build healthy cross functional collaboration, communicate effectively, and apply strong organizational practices.

In this role, the ideal candidate will:

  • Designing Automation Systems: Develop innovative solutions for automating warehouse processes including material handling, sorting, picking, and packing utilizing technologies such as robotics, conveyor systems, pill picking, unit of use dispensing, labeling and goods to person systems.
  • System Integration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams including operations, IT, and logistics to integrate automation systems with existing warehouse management systems (WMS) and other software platforms.
  • Installation and Commissioning: Oversee the installation, testing, and commissioning of automation equipment ensuring compliance with safety regulations and operational requirements.
  • Performance Optimization: Continuously monitor system performance post go live, conduct functional time studies (MOST), identify opportunities for optimization, standards and efficiency improvements through data analysis and process optimization.
  • Training and Documentation: Support the development training materials, process documentation, KPI metrics and provide training to warehouse staff on the operation process flow and maintenance of automation systems.
  • Compliance and Safety: Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements, 5S and safety standards related to automation equipment and processes.
  • Operational Readiness Planning: Develop comprehensive operational readiness plans outlining the implementation strategy, deployment schedule, staffing requirements, training needs, and contingency plans to ensure a smooth transition to automated operations.

Required Qualifications

  • 3 + years of engineering experience in a warehouse or manufacturing environment.
  • At least 1 year of experience designing and implementing automation solutions in a warehouse or manufacturing environment.
  • 2 year of warehouse management systems (WMS) and labor management systems (LMS).
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety standards.
  • 50% travel required.(Nationwide, then remote remain time)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong technical skills in PLC programming, robotics, control systems, and industrial communication protocols.
  • Proficiency in CAD software for system design and layout.
  • Lean Six Sigma Certification

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Process/Systems Engineering or related field experience.

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$66,330.00 - $145,860.00

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls.  The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors.  This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.
