The year 1954 marked a significant milestone in thermal insulation history. Armstrong’s R&D Project Number 54013, developed by three innovators, evolved into ArmaFlex, the world's first flexible, closed-cell elastomeric foam for equipment insulation. This product revolutionized the insulation industry. Today, more than 70 years later, ArmaFlex continues to be a pillar of Armacell's success. 

The Group Product Leader is responsible for managing the team of product managers and technical resources that support the product activities of the North American Advanced Insulation and Component Foam divisions of Armacell. The position integrates key elements of each of the focused markets for Armacell into a detailed market penetration plan to include portfolio management, product development and launch, and product life cycle management.

This position is remote; however, candidates should be located within a reasonable distance of Mebane, NC and Charlotte, NC. The role includes on-site presence at the Mebane manufacturing facility and periodic travel to the Charlotte headquarters.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage and drive the team through advanced stage-gate processes for each new product, meeting the criteria to include market research, product requirements, product specifications, product packaging requirements, product pricing, appropriate channels of distribution and marketing strategies.

  • Develop product portfolio life cycle analyses to determine strategy for existing products based on customer and market needs.

  • Lead and execute the product portfolio & rationalization process in a timely manner to maximize sales profitability.

  • Gather and assimilate market and competitive information from several sources such as trade information, conferences, customers, competitors’ websites and the sales team.

  • Evaluate each market for opportunities for product penetration, growth, and margin improvement.

  • Monitor the competitive landscape to stay ahead of potential threats while looking for opportunities.

  • Work with functional groups such as marketing communications, sales, and finance to ensure that each program is complete and executed with excellence.

  • Assist the quality team to evaluate failures and discuss solutions to customer complaints.

  • Manage formal training programs, working with the product management group, to train both internal and external teams on Armacell’s offerings.

Job Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Marketing required, additional MBA a plus.

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in product management roles. Operational and/or specific product development experience is a plus.

  • Proven project management and people skills with the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently across different divisions.

  • Strong technical affinity, with the ability to identify and communicate technical functional requirements and performance characteristics.  

  • Ability to excel in a cross-cultural, global team environment.

  • Possesses professional written and verbal communication skills.

  • Willing to travel domestically and internationally around 25%.

The expected compensation range for this role is $125,000.00 -$140,000.00.

The compensation range and benefits for this position are based on a full-time schedule for a full calendar year. The salary will vary depending on your job-related skills, experience, and location. Pay increment and frequency of pay will be in accordance with employment classification and applicable laws. For part time roles, your compensation and benefits will be adjusted to reflect your hours. Benefits may be pro-rated for those who start working during the calendar year.
