Job Description
We are seeking a Heavy Electrical Repair Technician at Lucid. You are the final set of eyes and hands before a Lucid Air or Gravity leaves the factory. As a Vehicle Heavy Electrical Repair Technician, you will perform diagnosis, repair, and validation of high-voltage (400V–1000V) electrical systems on in-process and finished electric vehicles on the factory floor. This is not a traditional dealership role as you will work inside the assembly plant alongside production, fixing battery packs, drive units, power electronics, wiring harnesses, and charging systems to keep vehicles moving down the line and to factory gate with zero quality escapes. This role demands speed, precision, and absolute adherence to high-voltage safety protocols in a 24/7, fast-paced manufacturing environment.
You Will:
- Rapidly diagnose and repair high-voltage faults on vehicles in real time (battery management system faults, contactor welding, isolation faults, inverter failures, DC-DC converter issues, harness chafing, coolant leaks in power electronics, etc.).
- Remove and reinstall 800–1000V battery packs (800–1,500 lbs) using overhead cranes, pack lifts, and specialized tooling.
- Perform high-voltage harness repairs, connector pin replacement, and shielding restoration using crimpers, ultrasonic welders, and torque-controlled assembly.
- Troubleshoot and program/re-flash HV components (BMS, inverters, chargers, DC-DC) using Lucid proprietary diagnostic software.
- Conduct dielectric testing, insulation resistance, and continuity checks on HV systems before re-energizing.
- Support End-of-Line (EOL) testing, dyno validation, and charging validation stations.
- Rework prototype and pilot-build vehicles with frequent engineering changes.
- Document all repairs in the manufacturing execution system (MES) and provide clear feedback to Quality and Engineering for root-cause containment.
- Train production associates and repair technicians proper HV connector handling and safety practices.
You Bring:
- High school diploma or GED required
- 5+ years of hands-on high-voltage EV repair experience (direct experience at OEM or tier-1 suppliers strongly preferred).
- Completed OEM-level high-voltage training.
- Ability to safely work on live 800–1000V DC systems following NFPA 70E Category 3/4 protocols (full arc-flash PPE, HV gloves Class 00–4, insulated tools).
- Proficient with diagnostic tools: CAN bus analysis, high-voltage multimeter, insulation tester (megger), and thermal imaging.
- Experience removing and reinstalling structural battery packs and dual/tri-motor drive units.
- Strong understanding of liquid-cooled power electronics and thermal runaway mitigation procedures.
- Comfortable working at heights (on vehicle lifts and mezzanines) and lifting 70+ lbs repeatedly.
Preferred Skills:
- Lucid electrical training completion provided by Service – applicable for internal hires.
- Previous gigafactory or assembly plant experience.
- Familiarity with manufacturing torque monitoring systems and error-proofing.
- Experience with ultrasonic welding, laser cleaning of busbars, or pyrofuse replacement.
- Ability to read and interpret 3D harness routings and engineering
