Description of Work

Employees perform a variety of office and/or technical tasks to accomplish the specialized processing of information, documents or materials. Employees typically work in an environment with other office staff but may work alone;
while work goals are shared, individual assignments may vary. Major duties include document completion, verification, problem identification and resolution; statistical, financial, and/or other record keeping; contact with sites staff including receiving and providing information and problem-solving; composition, calculation, and determination of an action or compliance; and office equipment operation. Work may require the use of a variety of manual or automated office systems. These systems are used to establish, retrieve, verify, research, update and/or
authorize processing actions.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

- Budget control of the procurement process, purchase transactions, and direct pay activities including monitoring spending.
- Invoicing for 501c3 reimbursement.
- Review and processing documents such as invoices and purchase orders ensuring they're correct, approved for payment, and submitted to accounts payable for payment.
- Management of card purchases.
- Approval of all travel documents.
- Section liaison with the Department's purchasing, accounts payable, and other areas of the business office.

Recruitment Range: $35,596.00 - $52,474.00

Candidates meet the minimum qualifications of this position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement. Vacancy specific knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) and/or management preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following are preferred: 

  • Experience in procurement including encumbrance closing

  • Experience in fixed assets control and reporting

  • Knowledge of accounting methods and practices

  • Experience in Accounts payable.

  • Proficiency in MS Office Excel, Word, PowerPoint and/or Outlook.

Position/Physical Requirements 

  • Must be available to work the schedule of Monday - Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm including a one-hour lunch.

  • Must have the ability to read and present financial information clearly and concisely in oral and written form.

This position is deemed eligible for hybrid telework under DNCR’s Telework Policy.

Minimum Education and Experience

Associate degree in accounting from an appropriately accredited institution

AND

one year of accounting experience;

OR

High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma

AND

three years of experience in accounting work;

OR

equivalent combination of education and experience.

Section/Unit Description

The Business and Finance team is responsible for supporting business and financial aspects of 27 state historic sites

throughout the state of North Carolina. Consisting of managing the budget of the division, procurement, accounts payable, accounts receivable, reporting financial data, tracking grants, fixed assets management, leases and other fiscal responsibilities while staying in compliance with state and federal laws.

Veteran’s and National Guard Preference
