Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Lead Program Manager to lead the planning, execution, and delivery of large-scale Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) deployment programs. This role serves as the primary program leader responsible for coordinating utility stakeholders, implementation vendors, contractors, and project teams throughout the full AMI deployment lifecycle.
The successful candidate will provide leadership in project planning, vendor management, deployment oversight, risk management, change management, and executive reporting. This position requires demonstrated experience managing complex infrastructure programs, directing multidisciplinary teams, and delivering large-scale technology and construction projects.

The Lead Program Manager will serve as a trusted advisor to utility clients and provide strategic guidance throughout AMI procurement, implementation, deployment, and operational transition activities.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

What You'll Be Doing:
 

Lead AMI Program Delivery: Serve as the Program Manager for large-scale Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) deployment programs, providing overall leadership from procurement support through deployment completion and operational transition.

Support Vendor Procurement and Contract Development: Collaborate with utility stakeholders to finalize AMI turnkey solution requirements, support vendor evaluations, participate in contract negotiations, and establish project governance frameworks.

Develop and Maintain Program Controls: Create and maintain integrated project plans, cost-loaded schedules, milestone tracking systems, deployment dashboards, KPIs, risk registers, and mitigation plans to support successful program execution.

Manage Implementation Vendors: Direct and oversee AMI deployment vendors, contractors, and subcontractors, including performance monitoring, issue resolution, change management, invoice review, progress verification, and contract compliance.

Oversee Deployment Activities: Coordinate deployment planning, installation sequencing, resource allocation, quality assurance activities, field inspections, and implementation readiness across all phases of the AMI program.

Manage Materials and Inventory Oversight: Monitor meter procurement, warehousing operations, inventory reporting, material availability, installation forecasting, and deployment productivity metrics.

Lead Risk and Issue Management: Maintain program risk registers, facilitate issue resolution, manage project escalations, document key decisions, and develop mitigation strategies to address project challenges and opportunities.

Drive Organizational Change Management: Lead transition planning activities associated with billing continuity, meter reading operations, workforce impacts, customer communications, training programs, and business process improvements.

Facilitate Stakeholder Coordination: Build strong relationships with utility leadership, operations personnel, customer service teams, technology providers, contractors, and regulatory stakeholders to support successful program outcomes.

Provide Executive Reporting: Prepare and present regular project status reports to utility leadership, summarizing schedule performance, budget status, installation progress, risk exposure, mitigation activities, key decisions, and lessons learned.

Support Project Closeout and Operational Readiness: Coordinate final acceptance activities, operational transition planning, performance verification, documentation development, and post-deployment reviews.

Who You Are:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or related field.
  • Active PMP certification required.
  • PE preferred.
  • 10+ years of program or project management experience.
  • 2+ years managing AMI, smart metering, utility infrastructure, or large-scale technology deployment programs.
  • Demonstrated experience managing programs exceeding $25M in value.
  • Experience managing contractors, subcontractors, and vendor relationships.
  • Experience developing project schedules, budgets, KPIs, and risk management plans.
  • Experience presenting to executive leadership and key stakeholders.
