Job Description

The Data and Analytics Office (DAO) team is currently looking for a Data Governance (DG) Associate Specialist to join their team. Reporting to the Data Governance Manager, this role is designed to take a hands-on approach in implementing and embedding enterprise data governance standards within the Global Technology Services (GTS) business unit. The DG partner will work closely with GTS business stakeholders and practitioners to map out the current data landscape and propose meaningful enhancements to align with the latest Enterprise Data Governance Standards. This partnership is crucial in ensuring that the business is not only compliant but also well positioned to leverage data as a strategic asset. Additionally, the role will act as a vital bridge between GTS, other business unit and corporate function DG teams, and Enterprise Data Governance, supporting technology teams as they navigate and apply data governance requirements in their daily operations, ongoing initiatives, and system management.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for creating and refining data governance procedures in concert with the enterprise data governance roadmap and industry standards

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify data governance resources and work with the various technology and business functions to mature data ownership and stewardship.

  • Support across PII, metadata, lineage, data quality, data classification, sensitive data management, data retention and disposition.

  • Advises development of data quality framework as well as set standards for measurement that ensure that data is fit for its purpose

  • Prioritizes and Implements continuously improving data governance, communication and change management plan in collaboration with partners across the organization while balancing quality, risk and cost

  • Leads and facilitates automation, reporting and communication of data governance and management

  • Supports value-added data products by enabling data trust and business context

  • Plans and conducts company wide data awareness and education campaigns

  • Thrives in a team environment, providing thought and execution leadership  

  • Responsible for strengthening the business glossary, metadata management, retention, classification and data lineage procedures, ensuring regulatory compliance

  • Partner with other teams and staff on complex and multi-tiered projects that data governance will be a part of

  • Work with CXO teams on data classification and security to manage sensitive data

  • Participates in business requirements gathering activities and deep dive the critical business applications to identify data governance and quality improvements, and automation opportunities

  • Participates in data governance review board meetings to assess business terms, definitions and Critical Data Elements within Technology Services

Desired Qualifications:

For internal applications - 24 months as Consultant

  • Practical experience in implementing company wide data governance framework and delivering data capabilities, with strong communication, presentation and influencing skills.

  • Adequate understanding of the Technology Domain

  • Sufficient understanding of the Data Privacy and Data Security standards and practices as they relate to Personally Identifiable Information (GDPR and CCPA)

  • Prior experience with RDARR and BCBS 239 is a strong plus

  • Knowledge of industry leading data governance practices, preferably in Technology and Financial Services.

  • Demonstrated experience using the data governance tools like Collibra Enterprise Catalog and Collibra Data Quality.

  • Ability to work independently on complex projects and get them finished on time with high quality standards

  • Ability to juggle multiple, parallel, priorities

  • 10+ years of related data governance experience with increasing scope, complexity and responsibility, with at least 3 years of hands-on experience in functional areas is highly desired

  • Bachelors or Master’s degree in data analytics, computer science or related field is preferred

  • Demonstrated experience in scaling up data governance across large organizations

  • Demonstrated strong organization skills in large, geographically dispersed organizations

  • Experience with Power automate, SQL, Power BI, Azure cloud services, Snowflake, AI a strong plus
