Job Overview

We are currently seeking an experienced Adult Acute Speech and Language Therapist to join a dynamic team at Milton Keynes University Hospital (MKUH). This role offers the opportunity to work across a variety of acute hospital wards, including the Acute Stroke Unit and Department of Critical Care.

This position is ideal for a Band 6 or Band 7 therapist who is confident working independently in an acute setting. You will manage a diverse caseload of patients presenting with dysphagia and communication difficulties arising from a wide range of conditions.

Flexible working options are available, including full days or part days. There is potential to combine posts to accommodate up to 1.1 Whole Time Equivalent (WTE), making this a highly adaptable opportunity.


Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Assess, diagnose, and manage adults with speech, language, communication, and swallowing disorders in an acute hospital setting
  • Independently manage complex dysphagia cases across a range of clinical presentations
  • Provide therapy across multiple wards, including the Acute Stroke Unit and Critical Care
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to support patient recovery and care planning
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in line with professional standards

Qualifications and Experience

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • A recognised degree in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent)
  • HCPC registration and membership with the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT)
  • Proven experience working within an acute adult setting
  • The ability to independently manage dysphagia and communication disorders
  • Strong clinical reasoning and decision-making skills

Desirable:

  • Experience with videofluoroscopy
  • Experience managing patients with tracheostomy
