The Opportunity
KBR’s Transport Advisory team is growing, and we are seeking an experienced Principal Transport Modeller to provide technical leadership across a diverse portfolio of transport planning, infrastructure and policy projects.
Working under broad direction, you will lead the development, application and review of strategic, mesoscopic, microsimulation and/or micro-analytical transport models, applying sound professional judgement to support evidence‑based decision making.
You will play a key role in shaping modelling approaches, improving analytical rigour, and delivering high‑quality outcomes that directly influence project performance, cost certainty, programme efficiency and client confidence.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and contribute to transport modelling, forecasting and analytics to support planning, business cases and infrastructure projects
- Select, adapt and apply appropriate modelling tools, methodologies and assumptions with minimal supervision
- Develop, calibrate, validate and apply strategic, corridor, precinct and project‑level models
- Support concept design, options assessment, business cases and detailed design stages
- Lead or contribute to large, complex multidisciplinary projects, working alongside planners, traffic engineers, economists and other specialists
- Provide technical leadership, coaching and mentoring to transport modellers and analysts
- Independently review modelling outputs, technical reports, assumptions and documentation
- Liaise effectively with clients, statutory authorities, internal disciplines and external consultants
- Promote continuous improvement, innovation and best practice within modelling activities
- Deliver work to agreed standards of time, cost, quality and risk, in line with KBR procedures and industry guidelines
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
- Extensive experience across transport modelling, traffic engineering or transport planning
- Demonstrated experience with modelling platforms such as VISUM, VISSIM, Aimsun, EMME, Cube, TransCAD or similar
- Strong understanding of Australian transport modelling guidelines and approval processes
- Experience with transport data analysis tools (Excel essential; Python, R or SQL advantageous)
- Ability to independently review, validate and defend modelling outcomes
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to both technical and non‑technical audiences
- Tertiary Qualifications in Transport Engineering, Civil Engineering, Planning, Mathematics, Economics or related discipline
