Role Summary:

The Overnight Manager of Building Operations is responsible for scheduling, planning, and overseeing the employees engaged in daily and nightly building maintenance and event set up/break down. The Manager will develop Back of House (BOH) trade event budgets for MSG Sphere matching staffing to event needs in the most efficient manner. The Manager will also collaborate with Venue Operations department heads and the Director of Building Operations to execute annual capital projects.

Specific Functions/Activities Summary

  • Oversee and supervise the daily operations of Building Operations trades and departments including the Utility and Conversion Crews, and Custodial Department, and with an emphasis on the overnight operations.
  • Works with Director and VP of Building Operations to manage internal labor expenses for building operations, while assisting with managing the department within parameters of the overall operating budget and as well as each individual event budget.
  • Ensures equipment maintenance and inventory management are completed on a regular basis
  • Develop and/or approve all union and non-union staffing schedules to assure efficiency in labor calls for both event requirements and maintenance functions. 
  • Monitor facility condition and plan; organize/assign work for trade labor in a cost-conscious manner, while seeking highest level of service to guests, clients, and other building occupants.
  • Responsible for developing, maintaining, and implementing preventative maintenance programs for all building event related equipment including but not limited to telescopic seating, staging, and material handling equipment.
  • Engage outside vendors as necessary to make necessary repairs or complete service.
  • Work closely with other departments including Event Production and the Sphere business units to coordinate repairs and maintenance within the building while avoiding impact to events/functions.
  • Responsible for coordinating events related building operations for union and non-union labor related to event and physical building set-ups/installation, day of event execution and the subsequent event load out.
  • Continuously review departmental needs and make recommendations on employee training, maintenance, and special projects with a goal of ensuring the highest client satisfaction and guest experience.

Qualifications:

  • The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5-7 years of Venue or Facility Management experience dealing with multiple events in a time-sensitive environment required.
  • Progressive experience in Venue or Facilities Management with direct responsibility for supervising back-of-house operating functions with an emphasis on Building Maintenance and Operations.
  • Experience working with venue telescopic seating systems required.
  • Working knowledge of custodial cleaning procedures including COVID-19 health, safety, and sanitization protocols preferred.
  • Ability to demonstrate success in managing multiple tasks while under tight deadlines and financial constraints.
