What is the opportunity?
Join RBC Royal Trust's National Tax Services team, where you’ll play a pivotal role in leading high-quality tax compliance work – preparing and reviewing T1 final, Estate and Trust T3 tax returns, Charity and information returns – while ensuring seamless service for estate and trust accounts. As a coach, mentor, and first point of escalation, you'll foster positive employee experience and drive superior outcomes. Your leadership will ensure consistent adherence to filing deadlines and operational excellence. This role combines strong technical tax expertise, meticulous attention to detail, proven mentorship and collaboration skills, and a commitment to innovation. You’ll enhance efficiency and excellence across tax services while supporting Relationship Managers and clients.
What will you do?
- Prepare and review complex estate and trust income tax returns with precision.
- Lead postmortem tax planning initiatives with private companies.
- Direct and mentor a high-performing tax team, cultivating professional growth and addressing operational challenges.
- Monitor evolving tax legislation and communicate implications to staff through seminars, policy briefs, and procedural updates.
- Investigate and resolve tax inquiries, escalating complex issues to senior leadership as needed.
- Train and support team members, ensuring knowledge transfer and backup coverage.
- Maintain clear documentation of account activities and communicate progress to Relationship Managers.
- Collaborate across teams to ensure seamless client experiences and accurate data for tax preparation.
- Drive innovation by leveraging technology to enhance efficiency.
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have
- Minimum 5 years of experience in personal, estate, and trust taxation, including Quebec income taxation
- Bilingualism (English and French) required, as you will regularly serve our clients and do business with RBC partners and/or employees across Canada with English and French speaking needs
- Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft 365, and tax software; experience with trust management database (Broadridge) an asset
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Nice-to-have
- Professional designations: CPA, In-Depth Tax Program (IDTP), CSC, TEP, M.Tax., or equivalent
- Proven leadership experience in coaching and team development
- Working knowledge of corporate and US tax
