Role Purpose

The primary purpose of the Senior Underwriting Assistant is to ensure the accurate and timely issuance of general insurance policies, guaranteeing completeness, consistency, and quality of documentation and data entered into systems, while coordinating and supervising the work of the policy issuance support team.

This role serves as a key liaison between the Issuance, Underwriting, and Operational Support teams, ensuring compliance with internal standards, timelines, and established guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review the proposals mailbox on a daily basis to collect, organize, and consolidate documentation required to initiate the policy issuance process.

  • Manage, coordinate, and assign tasks to the policy issuance support team, ensuring timely delivery and accurate execution of assigned activities.

  • Review the completeness, validity, and consistency of received documentation (proposals, quotations, and technical background) prior to initiating the issuance process.

  • Compare and analyze proposals and quotations, identifying and correcting discrepancies or inconsistencies across documents.

  • Maintain ongoing communication with the Underwriting team to request missing documentation, clarify discrepancies, and ensure proper interpretation of conditions and coverages, in line with current underwriting guidelines.

  • Review and validate the accurate entry of information into IRIS and SIGO systems, ensuring alignment with supporting documentation.

  • Track issuance progress and provide daily status updates on ongoing processes.

  • Support the preparation of basic operational reports in Excel related to policy issuance, workload, and case tracking.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement of issuance processes by identifying optimization opportunities in workflows and operational controls.

  • Ensure and support compliance with internal controls, corporate policies, and applicable regulatory requirements, including supporting internal audits or reviews when required.

Key Interactions

  • Ongoing and direct interaction with Underwriters and Senior Underwriters.

  • Frequent coordination with support functions (Operations, Legal, Finance, Reinsurance, Compliance).

  • Operational point of reference for Underwriting Assistants.

Role Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Academic background in Engineering, Insurance, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.

  • Relevant prior experience in underwriting, underwriting operations, or insurance technical support roles.

  • Previous experience in policy issuance, insurance operations, or policy administration is desirable.

  • Demonstrated experience in advanced operational roles supporting underwriting.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel at a basic/intermediate level.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong organizational skills, problem‑solving ability, attention to detail, and focus on quality standards.

  • Ability to respond quickly to irregularities, errors, or operational requests.

  • Capability to manage high volumes of information, prioritize multiple tasks, and meet demanding deadlines in fast‑paced environments.

  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, particularly when interacting with Underwriting and Operations teams.

  • High sense of responsibility and organization, with the ability to coordinate work with support teams.

  • Solid knowledge of underwriting processes and insurance documentation.

  • Intermediate English (desirable depending on line of business).

  • Experience using underwriting systems and document management tools.

  • Compliance with operational timelines and internal SLAs.

  • Level of operational rework or incidents.

  • Contribution to efficiency and process improvement within the area.
