At the Sample Prep and Analysis (SPA) group, we develop and maintain software solutions that automate the operation of Scanning Electron Microscopes (SEMs). Our technology enables customers in the semiconductor industry to identify manufacturing defects, accelerate research, and improve the reliability, performance, and energy efficiency of next-generation semiconductor devices.
What will you be working on?
We are looking for a Senior Software Quality Assurance Engineer / Technical Lead to help drive quality excellence across our software portfolio.
In this role, you will define the quality strategy for complex software systems that control highly sophisticated scientific instruments with nanometer precision. You will work closely with software engineers, product owners, system architects, and domain experts to ensure our products meet the highest standards of reliability, performance, and user experience.
This is a unique opportunity to combine quality engineering leadership, test automation, and AI-driven innovation in an international R&D environment. You will play a key role in shaping modern quality practices, introducing intelligent testing approaches, and ensuring the robustness of software that supports the development and production of the world’s most advanced semiconductor chips and memory technologies.
Responsibilities:
• Define and drive the overall Software Quality Assurance strategy across products and development teams.
• Serve as the technical leader for QA activities, mentoring QA engineers and promoting quality-first engineering practices.
• Collaborate closely with Product Owners, Software Architects, Developers, Data Scientists, and AI Engineers throughout the entire product lifecycle.
• Establish, improve, and govern testing processes, quality standards, and release readiness criteria.
• Design and implement scalable automated testing solutions across UI, API, integration, and system levels.
• Drive adoption of AI-powered testing approaches, including AI-assisted test generation, intelligent test maintenance, risk-based testing, and quality analytics.
• Participate in validation and verification of AI-enabled features, computer vision pipelines, and machine learning components.
• Develop quality metrics, dashboards, and reporting mechanisms to provide actionable insights into product quality and development efficiency.
• Lead root-cause analysis of quality issues and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
• Identify quality risks early in the development cycle and define mitigation strategies.
• Partner with external vendors and development partners to ensure consistent quality standards across integrated solutions.
• Review software architecture and technical designs from a quality, testability, reliability, and maintainability perspective.
• Champion shift-left testing practices and quality engineering culture throughout the organization.
Education/Experience:
• Master’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 7+ years of experience in software quality assurance, quality engineering, or software testing.
• 3+ years of experience leading QA initiatives, technical projects, or mentoring engineers.
• Strong experience working in Agile software development environments.
• Experience building and maintaining automated test frameworks and CI/CD quality pipelines.
• Experience testing complex software systems involving APIs, cloud-native applications, image processing, or AI/ML components.
• Experience working with cross-functional and geographically distributed teams.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Technical Leadership
• Strong leadership and mentoring skills with the ability to influence engineering teams without direct authority.
• Ability to define quality strategies and align them with business and technical objectives.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Software Quality Engineering
• Strong understanding of Agile software development principles and modern Quality Engineering practices
• Deep understanding of modern software testing methodologies, including functional, integration, system, regression, exploratory, performance, and reliability testing.
• Strong knowledge of software development lifecycle (SDLC), quality engineering, and DevOps practices.
• Ability to design test architectures and quality frameworks for complex software products.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to use data and metrics to drive decision-making and continuous improvement.
Automation & Development
• Strong Python programming skills.
• Practical experience with Playwright, Selenium, Cypress, Robot Framework, or equivalent automation technologies.
• Experience with API testing, RESTful services, OpenAPI/Swagger, contract testing, and service validation.
• Experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines.
• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, GitLab CI/CD, and cloud-native development practices.
AI & Emerging Technologies
• Strong interest in AI-driven software development and quality engineering.
• Experience applying Generative AI and LLM-based tools to improve testing efficiency and software quality.
• Understanding of testing challenges associated with AI/ML systems, including model validation, data quality, explainability, reproducibility, and bias detection.
• Experience validating computer vision, image processing, or AI-assisted workflows is highly desirable.
• Ability to evaluate and adopt emerging AI technologies that enhance engineering productivity and quality outcomes.
