What you will do

This role is responsible for the engineering design, development, and commissioning of advanced HVAC/R test laboratory systems within the European regulatory environment. The position ensures that all mechanical, refrigeration, and process systems meet stringent performance, safety, and compliance requirements applicable across EU member states as well as JCI internal policies and procedures.

How you will do it

  • Develop mechanical, refrigeration, and process (MRP) system designs for EU-based HVAC/R test laboratories, ensuring technical accuracy, safety, and reliability.
  • Prepare engineering documentation including specifications, calculations, CAD models, P&IDs, RFQs, and Bills of Material in accordance with EU engineering standards.
  • Evaluate design alternatives using structured analytical methods to ensure optimal performance, energy efficiency, and regulatory compliance.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary design activities (mechanical, electrical, controls, safety) to enable integrated and compliant HVAC/R test environments.
  • Lead commissioning activities including system startup, troubleshooting, performance verification, and documentation to support facility readiness.
  • Interface with suppliers, contractors, and internal engineering groups to ensure alignment with design intent, schedule, and quality requirements.
  • Ensure project execution aligns with EU project governance, CAPEX processes, and all relevant safety and environmental obligations.

  • Cooperate with our regional JCI Center of Excellence in York (US) and Wuxi (China) and apply best practice.

What we look for

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline; advanced degree or professional engineering accreditation preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience in HVAC/R design, laboratory systems engineering, or related technical fields.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with EU regulatory frameworks, conformity assessment processes, and engineering codes such as:
    • Safety and environmental requirements for refrigeration systems and heat pumps
    • EU F‑Gas Regulation
    • Pressure Equipment Directive
    • Machinery Directive
    • ATEX Directive
    • Electrical safety of machinery
    • ISO/EN, BS national building and ventilation standards
    • Hands-on experience developing refrigeration, thermal, and environmental simulation systems.
    • Proficiency with engineering tools (e.g. CAD, EES, LabView, Microsoft Office).

  • Ability to manage complex technical tasks independently and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills.
