Accounting Manager – Technical Accounting

Our Sofia-based Finance team of 450+ professionals supports operations in 37 markets worldwide.
We are looking for an Accounting Manager with strong IFRS expertise to act as a technical accounting leader across the group. You will partner with Controlling, Accounting, FP&A, Legal, and senior finance leadership to ensure accurate reporting, consistent accounting practices, and scalable governance.
This is a hands-on role with high impact, combining technical accounting expertise with cross-functional collaboration and a chance to shape SumUp’s accounting policies globally.
What you’ll do
Technical Accounting & IFRS
- Advise on complex and non-routine accounting transactions
- Research technical accounting topics and prepare clear position papers
- Support Controlling and Accounting teams in applying IFRS consistently
- Review contracts and initiatives to assess accounting impact
Accounting Policies & Governance
- Maintain and improve the Group Accounting Manual
- Prepare and publish IFRS-compliant accounting guidance
- Build scalable workflows for policy creation, review, and approval
Collaboration & Audit Support
- Partner with Finance, Tax, Legal, and Treasury teams on technical accounting questions
- Act as a key contact for external auditors
- Support onboarding of new senior finance team members
Training & Knowledge Sharing
- Deliver technical accounting trainings
- Identify process gaps and propose scalable improvements
You’ll be great for this role if
- 10+ years of experience in accounting, controlling, or financial reporting in multi-entity organizations
- Hands-on experience as a Technical Accountant, IFRS specialist, or similar
- Strong knowledge of IFRS and month-end / year-end reporting
- Experience preparing accounting memos and advising on judgment-based topics
- Fluent English with strong written, presentation, and stakeholder communication skills
- Highly detail-oriented, proactive, and comfortable in a fast-changing environment
Nice to have
- ACA, ACCA, CPA, or equivalent
- Experience in audit, internal control frameworks, or regulated industries
- Exposure to AI-powered accounting tools (e.g., PwC Inform, DART)
