Senior Fund Accountant

Location : Auckland

Description

To deliver expert support in the management of investment accounting functions, ensuring accurate and efficient processing of financial transactions and the timely, high-quality delivery of financial reporting for Apex NZ clients.

Job specification

  • Preparation of monthly accounting and portfolio valuation packages for clients, trustees and any other third parties

  • Prepare annual financial statements for clients’ funds with accuracy and timeliness in compliance with NZ IFRS, including review and oversight of work prepared by offshore team

  • Assist with annual financial statements audit process, including liaising with clients and external auditors, coordinating requests, and responding to queries in a timely manner

  • Maintain awareness of new exposure drafts and developments in NZ IFRS relevant to financial services and fund management, and assist with implementing any relevant changes

  • Monitor compliance to clients’ investment mandates as required

  • Assist with the regular review of fund fees and taxable income and expenses within the funds

  • Contribute to the maintenance and ongoing review of Fund Accounting team policies, procedures, and process documentation to ensure they remain current and effective

  • Assist with maintenance of general ledger and other static data

  • Collaborate with other teams in Operations, gain an understanding of their roles and how they interface with the Fund Accounting team

  • Undertake other duties as reasonably required, including assistance in projects and IT testing  initiatives

Skills Required:

  • Qualified Accountant (CA/CPA) with minimum  three years of relevant experience in the financial services industry, preferably within fund management, gained either directly or through audit experience

  • Strong working knowledge of NZ IFRS and financial reporting requirements for funds

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills

  • Understanding of investment products, including unit trusts, equities, fixed income, and derivatives, is advantageous

  • Strong organisational and time‑management skills, with the ability to meet tight reporting deadlines

  • Effective communicator with the ability to liaise confidently with clients, auditors, offshore teams and internal stakeholders, including responding to technical queries

  • High level of attention to detail, with a strong focus on data accuracy and integrity
