Job Description:

Finance Control Manager, Refining

Join our team and advance your career as a Finance Control Manager

Based at our Rotterdam Refinery, you'll be the finance expert on site, ensuring strong financial controls, accurate reporting, and providing trusted advice to business and operational stakeholders.

This is a highly visible role where you'll work closely with operations, support major projects and investments, challenge decisions when needed, and help drive continuous improvement across the refinery.

We're looking for an experienced finance professional who combines strong technical expertise with a proactive mindset. Someone who takes ownership, identifies risks and opportunities before they arise, builds strong stakeholder relationships, and drives improvements that create real business value.

What you'll be doing

  • Ensure accurate and compliant financial reporting in line with Group Accounting and Reporting & Control requirements.
  • Act as a trusted finance advisor to business and operational teams on accounting treatments, controls, reporting requirements, Capex/Revex decisions, leases, accruals, and delegations of authority.
  • Support major capital projects, acquisitions, disposals, and other complex business transactions by providing financial expertise and insights.
  • Identify financial, operational, and control risks and proactively drive actions to mitigate them.
  • Lead quarterly close activities and support internal and external audits.
  • Partner with stakeholders across the refinery to improve processes, strengthen controls, and enhance business performance.
  • Challenge existing ways of working and continuously seek opportunities for simplification, standardization, and improvement.
  • Provide independent advice and constructive challenge to support sound business decision-making.

What you'll bring

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, or a related field.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in Finance Control, Financial Accounting, Audit, Business Finance, or a similar finance leadership role.
  • Strong understanding of financial controls, governance, reporting requirements, and risk management.
  • Excellent analytical skills and the ability to translate complex financial information into actionable business insights.
  • Experience supporting capital projects, investments, acquisitions, or complex business transactions.
  • Fluent Dutch and English communication skills, both written and spoken.
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to build credibility across all levels of the organization.
  • Experience working in a complex industrial, manufacturing, refining, energy, or multinational environment is highly valued.

What will make you successful

  • You are highly proactive and take ownership of issues from identification through to resolution.
  • You don't wait for direction—you identify risks, opportunities, and improvement initiatives and drive them forward independently.
  • You are comfortable challenging stakeholders and influencing decisions in a constructive and professional manner.
  • You thrive in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and changing business demands.
  • You have a continuous improvement mindset and enjoy simplifying processes and strengthening controls.
  • You combine strong technical finance expertise with commercial awareness and business partnership skills.
  • You are resilient, confident, and able to make sound decisions based on incomplete or evolving information.

Why join us?

This is an opportunity to play a key role within one of our most important refining operations. You'll work with senior stakeholders, contribute to major business decisions, support strategic projects, and help shape a strong control environment while driving meaningful improvements across the business.

If you're looking for a role where you can make an impact, influence decisions, take ownership, and drive change, we'd love to hear from you.
