This Position reports to:
IS Operations ManagerAs a Software Developer (Programmer Analyst), you design, develop, test, and maintain software solutions by combining analytical and programming expertise. In this role, you analyze business and user requirements, translate them into computer code, and ensure applications are reliable, efficient, and scalable. You are responsible for project analysis, data modeling, coding, documentation, and end-user support.
This role contributes to ABB Canada's Electrification, Smart Buildings division and is based in Dorval, Quebec.
This is a hybrid position requiring 3 to 4 days per week in the office.
Responsibilities
- Requirements Analysis: Gather and analyze business and user requirements to identify software and database needs.
- Solution Design: Design technical solutions, model business processes and data structures, and prepare technical specifications.
- Software Development: Develop and maintain software applications by writing clean, efficient, and maintainable code.
- Testing & Maintenance: Perform testing (including beta testing), troubleshoot issues, resolve defects, and enhance existing applications.
- Documentation: Create and maintain technical documentation and user guides.
- Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional IT teams and collaborate within Agile development environments.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. Professional certifications such as Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) or Microsoft SQL Server certifications are considered an asset.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in software development and database management. Experience participating in system migration, modernization, or optimization projects.
- Bilingual French - English. English is necessary to communicate with clients outside Quebec.

- Database Management Systems (DBMS): Oracle, MySQL, SQL Server, PostgreSQL
- Programming Languages: SQL, PL/SQL, T-SQL, Python (automation scripting)
- Tools: Talend, SSIS, Power BI, Git, Jira
- Database design and modeling (Merise, UML)
- Development of complex SQL scripts
- SQL query performance optimization
- Data integration (ETL)
- Database security and access management
- Maintenance and continuous improvement of existing databases
