Physical Demand:

Many stations are small and do not require walking, but they do require frequent torso twisting.
Walking (frequently) – back and forth between robot welding stations
Vision and hearing (continuously)
Hand/finger coordination (frequently)
Lifts: The most demanding lifts typically involve heavy boxes of nuts/bolts or tubs filled with many small parts. These tend to be on a rare basis. Some stations lift large frame components on a frequent basis, but these components do not exceed 15 pounds.
Low lift - manually lifting/lowering a load between the floor and 36 inches. In general the employee should be comfortable with a 35# low lift.
Horizontal lift – lift/lower of an object between 36 and 55 inches high. In general the employee should be comfortable with a 40# horizontal lift.
High lift – lift/lower of an object above 55 inches high. In general the employee should be comfortable with a 35# high lift.
Palmar pinch (grip) – generating force while grasping to move, hold, or stabilize an object. Grips are measured for actions such as hammering, scooping nuts/bolts, or sweeping. In general the employee should be comfortable with a 40# grip.
Carry – transport of a load over a distance of 3ft or more via walking and use of the upper extremities. In general the employee should be comfortable with a 40# carry.
Push/pull – A push and/or pull on the floor is almost exclusively used when employees are moving carts or racks around. The weight of the push varies depending on how fast the cart moves and whether or not it is full of parts at the moment. In general the employee should be comfortable with a 50# push or pull.
The Maximum demand column shows the most demanding exertions in terms of weight and frequencies. The column marked 90% shows the weight for each movement that an operator should be comfortable with in order to operate 90% of the stations on the factory floor.
