To facilitate communication between health care providers and non-English speaking patients, helping to advocate for their needs at each point along the care continuum.

RESPONSIBILITIES
•Interprets clinical and other interactions between patients, families, and staff.
•Accepts referrals via pager, voice mail, and other methods for interpreting both emergency and scheduled interactions.
•Prioritize requests and recommends utilization of other methods if appropriate.
•On-call for patient service needs and responds in a timely manner.
•Familiar with medical terminology and procedures.
•Translates documents and other printed materials as requested by organization, arranging with outside translation vendors as needed.
•Participates in cultural sensitivity training opportunities for organization staff relating to interactions with patients and families of various cultures.
•Membership on related committees such as Cultural Diversity and Patient Education.
•Conduit for interpretation of patients’ cultural needs to service staff.
•Develops community liaison role, working with designees from community groups to assure culturally sensitive interactions between patients and staff.
•Assists by providing input into joint grant projects or other activities.
•Performs other duties as assigned.
