Specialty Operations business unit is accepting online applications for the position of Biodiesel Lab Technician I at our Danville, IL plant, through April 18th, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. (CST)

The purpose of this job is to be responsible for and assist with technical support to Chevron Renewable Energy Group with an emphasis on maintaining and improving the quality of the current production as well as validating the quality of the incoming feedstock.

 

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

 

  • Perform quality testing on incoming/refined ingredients

  • Perform quality testing on in-process products

  • Perform quality testing on finished product

  • Perform quality testing on co-products

  • Report on quality results Data Analysis

  • Perform analytical testing utilizing various laboratory instrumentation including (but not limited to): GC-FID, Karl Fisher titrator, densitometer, ICP, sulfur analyzer.

  • Evaluate analytical information and communicate the results efficiently and accurately to management.

  • Perform instrument calibration and verification per manufacturing recommendations, ASTM D6751 test methods, and internal work instructions.

  • Participate in the SQC program, BQ9000 program, CREG’s Quality Program and FSMA program. Instrument Maintenance and Troubleshooting

  • Perform Laboratory standard and reagent preparation.

  • Perform activities related to the continuous improvement of laboratory operations, including accuracy and precision in compliance with statistical quality assurance.

  • Troubleshoot instrumentation problems if/when they arise and offer solutions/recommendations for remediation.

Other Frequent Duties

  • Administrative and housekeeping tasks

  • Recording of testing data in a timely manner

 

Required qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Be available for rotating 8, 10, or 12-hour shift work and overtime.

  • Able to use Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Visio)

  • Able to work at heights

  • Able to wear personal protective equipment, climb, stand for long periods of time, and ability to lift at least 50 lbs.

 

Preferred qualifications:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Demonstrate attention to detail and documentation

  • Maintain a clean and orderly working environment

  • Analytical ability to identify the root cause of measurement error, comprehension of instrument technical specifications and calibration procedures preferred

  • Ability to read and follow instructions

  • Manage multiple tasks simultaneously and in a timely manner

  • Record data and generate reports on a timely basis

  • Associates degree in a science-related field preferred, or experience in a laboratory setting may be substituted.

  • 6 months of relevant experience

 

Working conditions

This position requires some flexibility in working hours to assure effective product shipments, which may include working weekends, holidays, or rotating shifts. This position requires frequent exposure to chemicals and hazardous materials. Exposures may include methanol, potassium methylate, vegetable oil and animal fats, caustic catalyst, acids, scents, temperature extremes, and medium to high noise levels.
