Job Description:

*Behavioral Health Tech positions are available at levels I, II, or III, depending on experience and education. *

Our NEW Pediatric Behavioral Health Center is scheduled to open in December 2026. Candidates applying for this position should expect a start date after September 1, 2026. All applicants must be 21 years of age or older and provide two professional references as part of the hiring process.

Under direct supervision of the Charge RN, RN Manager and/or BH manager will utilize behavioral interventions, medical and technical skills to provide support to the patient care team.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Accompanies and transports patients.

  • Assists in identifying patients’ problems, needs, and strengths.

  • Assists in providing treatment plan to patient based on observations of patient behavior and provides input into discharge planning.

  • Assists in restocking rooms with supplies and equipment as directed.

  • Assists patients in carrying out activities of daily living; such as hygiene needs that can include showering and toileting.

  • Assists with admission, discharge, and transfer process.

  • Collects specimens as directed.

  • Completes checks as ordered by clinical team and document immediately.

  • Continuous monitoring of the therapeutic environment for safety concerns.

  • Detects and identifies unsafe environmental conditions and patient behaviors.

  • Documents patients belongings.

  • Duties may be performed for one patient or more than one patient.

  • Intervenes with NCI during episodes of patient aggressive and potentially violent behavior causing risk of harm to self or other patients on the unit.

  • Keeps the patient’s room in clean and orderly condition, makes beds, and replaces soiled linen.

  • Monitors patients in clinical and medical therapies.

  • Monitors, engages in and promotes a safe patient milieu.

  • Participates in implementing patients’ treatment plan by monitoring patients’ progress and communicates information regarding patient behavior to other members of the team.

  • Performs blood glucose monitoring.

  • Recognizes and reports adverse reactions to neuroleptic medications including Extra Pyramidal Symptoms, Tardive Dyskinesia, and Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome.

  • Reports symptoms and significant changes in patient’s condition or behavior to RN.

  • Responds to emergency situations related to dangerous or potentially dangerous patient behaviors.

  • Restores and maintains a safe and secure environment by implementing measures under NCI.

  • Takes emergency actions as required.

  • Takes/records blood pressures, temperatures, pulse and weighs patients.

  • Transports patients to and from various treatment areas within the hospital, when necessary, assists transporters in moving patients in and out of stretchers and wheelchairs.

  • When assigned to one patient as a safety attendant (1:1 assignment), provides care, observes the patient and remains within 3 feet of the patient at all times with constant visual monitoring.

General Responsibilities

Level I Minimum Qualifications

Education Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.

Experience Requirements

  • 0-3 years of experience in a healthcare setting required.

License/Certification/Registration Requirements

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association (AHA) within 30 days of hire.

  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certificate within 30 days of hire.
     

Level II Minimum Qualifications

Education Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.

Experience Requirements

  • 3 or more years experience in the healthcare with at least one of the years in a mental health setting.

License/Certification/Registration Requirements

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association (AHA) within 30 days of hire

  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certificate within 30 days of hire

Level III Minimum Qualifications

Education Requirements

  • Associate's degree required.

Experience Requirements

  • 5 or more years of experience in a healthcare setting.

License/Certification/Registration Requirements

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association (AHA) within 30 days of hire)

  • Crisis Intervention and Patient de-escalation certificate within 30 days of hire

  • Certification for Behavioral Health Technician upon hire. (American association of psychiatric technicians, Registered Behavior Technician with BACB, Certified Behavioral Health Specialist (CBHS) with NPS, Certified Mental health technician with NCCB)

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Requirements

  • Ability to work with others as a team to ensure quality patient care.

  • Basic knowledge of computer systems.

  • Good interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work effectively in stressful situations.

  • Ability to respond appropriately to emergency situations.

  • Knowledge of Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI).
