Description:

The Manager of Ambulatory Pharmacy Services is responsible for ensuring the provision of comprehensive pharmaceutical care services to all patients and customers in areas of responsibility. 

  • Provides leadership and direction to areas of responsibility
  • Provides oversight of and guidance to others regarding pharmaceutical services to outpatient populations.
  • Provides input to director regarding new service opportunities and strategic planning. 
  • Participates as appropriate in the development of new services that support the strategic initiatives of the organization.
  • Ensures assigned departments have appropriate human resources, including hiring, counseling, performance evaluation, performance standards and training standards. 
  • Serves on designated Health Center committees and task forces as assigned. 
  • Plans and attends meetings, in services in areas of responsibility on a regular basis.
  • Develops a team approach to working with staff and departments, building an engaged and team-oriented atmosphere across the pharmacy departments as well as across the organization.   
  • Recommends improvements to existing programs or services; implements and evaluates changes.
  • Develops, implement, and reviews department/organization policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of services complying with Trinity Health,  MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center policies, federal and state regulations. 
  • Maintains current knowledge base of trends, policies, regulatory standards, and legislation and advises administration when pertinent.   
  • Develops and maintains departmental staffing plan for areas of responsibility detailing appropriate associate classifications and qualifications consistent with the department’s operational plan, projected volumes, and other relevant indicators.
  • Participates in annual human resource planning process providing recommendations for staffing proactive recruitment and long-term needs. Assures daily staffing adheres to plan.
  • Assists in developing and monitoring department budgets.
  • Supervises or performs the responsibilities of the Lead Pharmacist, or Staff Pharmacist in their absence.
  • Is competent to provide care to the population served, as identified in the descriptions of services maintained in the pharmacy.
  • Collaborates with financial assistance team to mitigate cost as a barrier for patient for pharmaceutical products.
  • Oversees pharmacy financial assistance programs Works closely with 340B coordinator to ensure compliance with relevant aspects of 340B Program.
  • Ensures that monthly budget variance reports are reviewed and responded to appropriately for each department, problem solving as needed for errors and to respond to changing business conditions.
  • Approves pay-period end payroll, edits timecards and schedules, ensures productivity metric for assigned areas is met.
  • Reviews and approves invoices and expenditures from assigned departments.
  • Respond to requests for Revalidations and Recredentialing of pharmacy relationships with NCPDP, Third Party Payors, Medicare etc. with input from local and system Provider Enrollment.
  • Leads and participates in the Mercy Way, utilizes Mercy Way tools for problem solving and establishing best practices, and coaches colleagues to independently do the same.
  • Maintains required department confidentiality and abides by HIPPA regulations.
  • Provides competent patient care to the above indicated patient populations by obtaining and appropriately interpreting data, making appropriate decisions based on demonstrated knowledge of age-specific growth and development, and appropriately adapting procedures and treatments.
  • Takes an active role in enhancing ability to carry out job functions through personal and professional/job-related growth and development, and participates in medical center and/or departmental education programs.
  • Communicates with and performs duties following the philosophy of Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa and the Sisters of Mercy reflecting the organization’s Mission, Values, and Guiding Behaviors.
  • Supports and abides by all medical center, departmental, and safety policies and procedures. 
  • Proactively identifies safety concerns surrounding the work environment.
  • Performs other responsibilities as requested by supervisor, manager or department head.

Education:

  • Completion of a BS or Pharm D in pharmacy required.
  • A graduate degree in management, business, or health care administration is desired.
  • Iowa Pharmacist licensure, either by examination or by reciprocity, is required.
  • Completes Mandatory Reporting requirement within 6 months of hire and renews this requirement every 5 years.

Experience:  Previous experience in an ambulatory pharmacy or complex health care organization (3-5 years)
