POSITION SUMMARY:

The Quality Control Inspector is responsible for performing in-process and final inspection on railcars parts or components, to ensure that qualification and inspections at our facility are complete and compliant with applicable regulations, codes, AAR Interchange/MSRP’s, Marmon Rail standards/procedures, and other customer requirements. The inspector has full authority and is required to identify nonconforming conditions, generate nonconformance reporting and hold or stop work on parts and components pending resolution.

Primary responsibilities and/or essential functions include, but are not limited to:

  • Performs visual, dimensional, and/or mechanical inspection of railcar parts and components throughout all stages of the manufacturing process.
  • Assures all identified nonconforming conditions are identified by reports, forms, checklist and/or the nonconformance reporting system.
  • Maintains an up-to-date inspection record of all inspections performed on each part or component as jobs move through the facility.
  • Reviews shop floor documentation to ensure completeness and compliance.
  • Works with production to identify and plan for the day’s shipments to ensure verifications/inspections are made in a timely manner.
  • Reports adverse and/or non-compliant items to the supervisor responsible and QA Manager and follows-up to confirm that remedies have been put in place on items before the car is released to subsequent processes/stages.
  • Participates in and actively supports quality projects, activities and Responsible Care initiatives to ensure that the Company achieves its goals.

SKILLS/SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to communicate technical information verbally and written.
  • Basic computer skills needed.
  • General mechanical aptitude and ability to use dimensional inspection tools, weld inspection gages, testing techniques and test equipment necessary for inspections.
  • Ability to climb ladders, bend, crawl, squat, kneel, and stretch to perform inspections.
  • Have keen visual and audio acuity to recognize various shop danger/warning signals to avoid injuries and promote a safe work environment.
  • Possess ability to spend most of their time on their feet and constantly moving throughout the day.
  • Be willing and able to wear safety equipment, such as safety shoes, safety glasses, hard hats, earplugs, and respirators.
  • Have vision correctable to 20/20 for inspection activities.
  • Ability to operate forklifts
  • Ability to read and understand standard operating procedures, code specifications, and blue prints.

The incumbent works to meet internal and external customer expectations at all times by fully applying oneself to the task involved, preventing errors, and developing and implementing personal quality improvement projects. In addition, the incumbent is required to understand the Responsible Care Management System and actively participate in activities outlined therein.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
