Area Manager, Tokyo

Travel Partnerships and Advertising

Travel Partnerships and Advertising helps partners, including hotels, vacation rentals, airlines, destination marketing organizations (DMOs) and more, deliver excellent traveler and B2B experiences. We drive growth for our partners and the Expedia Group marketplace through competitive supply and our leading advertising and travel media network.

As an Area Manager based in Tokyo, you will lead a team of market managers who own relationships with hotels and properties across your assigned area. You will set the commercial strategy for your market, use data to identify growth opportunities, and partner closely with hotels to optimize their performance on our platform. Your leadership will directly influence how travelers see and experience our lodging supply in Japan.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of Market Managers and Associate Market Managers to deliver against commercial, acquisition, and quality targets
  • Own a portfolio of strategic hotel and property partners in your area, building strong, long-term relationships based on trust and clear, data-driven recommendations
  • Use performance, market, and competitive insights to build and execute market plans that drive revenue, share growth, and partner satisfaction
  • Guide partners to optimize their presence on Expedia Group sites (content, pricing, availability, promotions) to improve conversion and profitability
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., product, marketing, analytics, operations) to land new programs, test initiatives, and scale what works across the region
  • Represent Expedia Group in the local market with key industry stakeholders, sharing market insights and advocating for partner and traveler needs
  • Continuously review processes, tools, and ways of working to improve team efficiency, scalability, and overall business impact
  • Other reasonable duties, as assigned

Experience and qualifications:

  • You have 5+ years of experience in sales/account management, with 1+ years of experience leading and developing a team in a commercial, account management, sales, or business development environment, ideally within travel, hospitality, e-commerce, or a marketplace business
  • You have a track record of owning a book of business or market, setting clear goals, and delivering measurable revenue or growth outcomes through data-driven decision making You are proficient at building relationships with external partners and internal stakeholders, and you are comfortable influencing decisions even when perspectives differ
  • You are confident working with data and reporting tools to identify trends, opportunities, and risks, and you can translate insights into clear, actionable plans for your team and partners
  • You are proficient in both Japanese and English, with the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly in writing and in person with a wide range of audiences
  • You are organized, able to manage multiple markets, projects, and partner conversations at the same time, and you adapt quickly in a fast-changing environment
  • You have a bachelor’s degree in Business, Hospitality, Tourism, Economics or a related field; or equivalent related professional experience
