Description of Work

The North Carolina Department of Administration is seeking applicants for a Boiler Operator for our Facility Management division. The primary mission of Facility Management is to provide a Safe and healthful work environment for employees and the public in a cost effective and energy efficient manner. This mission is accomplished by performing routine, preventative, and emergency maintenance to state facilities owned by and allocated to the Department of Administration.

This position is responsible for manning an 8-hour rotational shift. The applicant will maintain a continues vigil and take all steps necessary to maintain a steam output that will meet total demand. This position requires a thorough working knowledge of fuel oil and gas boilers.

This position will provide a suitable environment for the state government complex in Raleigh by means of steam necessary to meet demand and maintenance and repair of steam plant boilers and equipment. The work affects the efficient operation of complete steam plant; could affect the comfort and safe heating of state buildings.

*MAX SALARY FOR THIS POSITION IS: $47,121

Recruitment Range: $35,596-$47,121

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintenance and repair of boilers, air compressors, steam traps, and blowers.

  • Monitor load demands and starts of shut down respective boilers to maintain the required steam output needed throughout the State Government Complex.

  • Position will ensure all controls, feed water, draft, etc., are maintained for optimum plant operation

  • Individuals must be able to react to change loads in demand as required, including during emergencies.

  • This position will also monitor chemical feed systems for water treatment and make necessary tests and adjustments to ensure correct chemical levels are being produced

MANAGEMENT EXPECTATIONS:

  • The position requires standing for long periods of time and performing manual labor.

  • The individual hired for this position must be capable of strenuous lifting, crawling and working at heights up to sixty-five feet or more.

  • The position may require exposure to extreme environmental conditions.

  • The position may the use of personal protective equipment.

  • The individual hired for the position must be familiar with building, life and safety codes.

  • Employees are required to wear a uniform, picture ID badge, use safety equipment and follow safety regulations which are provided by the state.
