About the role

Focus of Job:  

Reports directly to the Supplier Quality Engineering Manager. The responsibility is to ensure that subcontractors have quality policies and practices in place to manufacture or test products to meet the quality, performance and reliability requirements of Semtech; Drives the performance consistency of suppliers and drives the key gap closures and sustaining efforts on ongoing quality issues; Works closely with Semtech resources to resolve customer complaints and ensure the effectiveness of the corrective action system in a timely manner.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Conducts supplier audits: risk assessments; preventive audits; comprehensive supplier audit, to be proactive and be able to prevent quality incidents to happen in the manufacturing line.
  • Identify assembly critical defects and auditable items based on previous audit findings, customer quality requirements and issues and internal supplier quality issues.
  • Customize generic quality system audit criteria to Semtech specific criteria and continually adjust the audit criteria and checklist to address identified weaknesses.
  • Support review and closure of corrective actions required by customers in a timely manner. Challenge submitted corrective actions of suppliers to assure their effectiveness and appropriateness; validate root cause analysis against reported failure analysis.
  • Drives supplier 8D Team on completion of urgent quality issues and provides update to Corporate Quality Assurance / Corporate SQE; drive completion of investigation through task force meetings
  • Drive continuous improvement and maintain communication with assigned suppliers through quality focus meetings and sharing of lessons learned.
  • Establish and maintain a supplier report card performance monitoring system. Document and record the report card system using a scorecard database.
  • Facilitates cross functional meetings and supplier site quarterly business reviews as needed.
  • Maintain a supplier performance requirements document; document supplier compliance and gap analyses.
  • Support the review and disposition of non-conforming material, review process changes, review of customer information, and review supplier quality data
  • Will be responsible for monitoring supplier product quality by means of supplier product quality & data analysis, trend chart
  • Applies quality processes and tools such as SPC, PFMEA, 8D Report, Control Plans, GRR, PPAP, to investigate and analyze quality related issues and concerns, control and improve the quality of manufactured products.  Utilize AI as a tool, in improving quality and simplifying work.
  • Responsible for managing Semtech assembly & test suppliers and sustaining supplier quality monitoring and control system to ensure Semtech successful assembly & test operations in technology & product qualification, transfer and production .
  • Acts as an expert to provide coaches, guidance and work direction to other Quality Engineers and Technicians within the department as well as suppliers.
  • Work with supplier(s) on establishing quality monitoring scheme and ongoing reliability testing.
  • Participate in checking quality data of NPI lots, to make sure smooth transition to production mode.

Qualifications:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Material Science, Mechanical Engineering or Industrial engineering required.
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in any of the following: quality engineering; quality control; process engineering; product engineering; assembly engineering; test engineering, in Semiconductor Assembly and Test areas for the following packages: QFNs, DFNs; WLCSP; Wafer Bumping; SOIC; SOT; FC; COL
  • Applicants with process engineering or assembly engineering experience in Integrated Circuit will be given preference, provided they are willing to expand knowledge and take new role in quality engineering functions.
  • Hands on skills in statistical database tools (e.g, JMP); in 8D problem solving; in constructing DoE
  • Knowledgeable with the Assembly and Test processing from incoming raw silicon to final test tape and reel / tray packaging. Knowledgeable with ISO 9000 standards, ISO 14000, IATF16949, AEC Standards and RoHS/EMS directives
  • Demonstrated capability and accountability in managing projects, timeline and priority within minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated strong engineering & quality leadership in problem solving of quality and processing issues.
  • Able to communicate in local language, and English both verbal and written. Other language is a plus
  • Excellent organization skill, analytical and communication skill
  • Strong PC skill (Word Doc, Spreadsheet and Power Point)
  • Applicants with supervisory or managing experience is an advantage.
  • This job requires residency in PENANG.  Some travel (<10%) is expected.
