About this role:

Wells Fargo’s Enterprise Payments Strategy team is seeking a Payments Lead Strategy & Planning Consultant to support the development and execution of the bank’s enterprise-wide payments strategy across Consumer, Small Business, and Commercial clients. This role will contribute to shaping Wells Fargo’s approach to payments innovation, including Real-Time Payments and emerging capabilities, by assessing market dynamics, evaluating competitive offerings, and identifying opportunities to strengthen our differentiated market position and leadership in payments.

In this role, you will support high‑priority strategic initiatives with visibility at the most senior levels of the organization. You will tackle complex, cross‑functional efforts and help advance innovative payments solutions that enhance customer experiences and drive business growth. You will collaborate closely with a diverse group of talented, highly motivated partners across the enterprise and help ensure the successful delivery of value through coordinated, cross‑functional execution.

In this role, you will:

  • Deliver clear, actionable payments analysis and strategic updates to senior leaders on prioritized enterprise initiatives and objectives

  • Develop and maintain competitive intelligence and market research to inform payments strategy and investment decisions

  • Perform data‑driven analysis through partnership with analytics teams, financial modeling, and internal and external research

  • Partner with business, strategy, and product leaders to identify client needs, emerging trends, and growth opportunities

  • Identify and recommend key Enterprise Payments Strategy initiatives and investments to monitor and grow the payments business (e.g., scorecard)

  • Lead complex, cross‑functional projects, managing scope, timelines, budgets, risks, and dependencies to ensure successful delivery

  • Rigorously manage end‑to‑end project lifecycles, maintaining transparent engagement, milestone tracking, and issue resolution

  • Collaborate with managers, stakeholders, scrum masters, legal, and delivery teams to resolve issues and achieve project objectives

  • Translate regulatory requirements and enterprise strategy into executable plans, proactively identifying risks and acceleration opportunities (e.g., MSP project plan, risk and opportunity playbooks, scenario evaluation and business case development)

  • Create and maintain documentation related to risk policy alignment, procedures, and implementation processes

  • Assess trends to evaluate internal control effectiveness and compliance with company policies and state and federal regulatory requirements

  • Support and lead strategic working sessions to align cross‑LOB roadmaps and business objectives with enterprise strategy

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of Strategy and Planning experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

Desired Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of management consulting experience with a top‑tier consulting firm

  • 3+ years of experience in payments or transaction‑related roles (e.g., commercial banking, merchant services, digital banking, or banking consulting engagements)

  • 3+ years of experience in project management, strategic planning, process management, change delivery, or end‑to‑end implementation efforts

  • Demonstrated experience supporting multiple large‑scale, complex initiatives concurrently

  • Strong understanding of product or program management, including roadmap development, strategy formulation, and delivery from ideation through market launch

  • Proven leadership and influencing skills with the ability to operate effectively in a matrixed environment

  • Experience owning program strategy, managing end‑to‑end delivery, and communicating outcomes to senior leadership

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage professionally with executives, regulators, managers, and subject matter experts

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively in team environments and apply strong interpersonal skills to drive progress through challenges

  • Strong analytical capabilities with exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and the ability to derive meaningful business insights from data

  • Effective time management and organizational skills, with a track record of meeting deadlines

  • Ability to thrive in fast‑paced, agile, and dynamic environments while managing multiple complex initiatives

  • Comfort navigating ambiguity, adapting to changing priorities, and maintaining momentum

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, and SharePoint

  • Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree in a related field (e.g., Finance, Business, Management, MBA)

Job Expectations:

  • This position offers a hybrid work schedule.

  • Ability to travel up to 5%.

Pay Range

California: $131,000- $224,000 annual

Minneapolis: $119,000- $206,000 annual

New York: $119,000- $224,000 USD annual

Actual salary will depend on location, experience, and qualifications.

Strategy & Planning:  Covers job responsible for establishing the strategic direction of the business that aligns to the immediate and long term goals  by assessing current and future state and establishing the action plans to execute.

Pay Range
 

Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to demonstrated examples of prior performance, skills, experience, or work location. Employees may also be eligible for incentive opportunities.

$119,000.00 - $224,000.00
