JOB DESCRIPTION

Fox News is seeking an organized, motivated, and curious Assignment Editor with strong logistical and editorial skills to join the assignment desk team in our Washington, D.C. Bureau. The Assignment Editor will work closely with a team of people to coordinate daily news coverage across the Capitol, White House, Pentagon, State Department, and other locations throughout the region. This role requires someone who can respond quickly to breaking news, organize and adjust crews, prioritize editorial incoming information, and communicate it to those who need it. The ideal candidate is naturally curious about the news and able to thrive in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment.

A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Monitor wires, social media, and other broadcast networks for news developments

• Assign, move, and adjust crews and reporters to meet changing coverage demands

• Work with beat producers to plan and adjust coverage as news develops

• Ensure urgent and updated information is entered into the appropriate queues and communicated to relevant personnel

• Reach out to government agencies, departments, outside contacts, and FOX personnel to gather and confirm information

• Develop creative coverage plans that maximize available resources

• Aggressively seek out additional information, identify story opportunities, and pitch coverage ideas.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

• Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience 

• Experience working in a local or national newsroom 

• Familiarity of Washington, D.C., including major government agencies and venues

• Strong logistical and editorial skills, with knowledge of national and international politics

• Knowledge of network pool operations at the desk level with an emphasis on understanding the unilateral benefit

• Ability to be a self-starter who can work independently, as well as a team player 

• Strong multitasking, prioritization, and decision-making skills in a fast-paced environment, especially during breaking news

• Experience with satellite trucks, LiveU technology, AVOC, fiber drops, and related live-production logistics.

• Willingness to work a variety of shifts including holidays, weekends, early mornings, and late nights

Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay rate/range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is $74,000.00-99,000.00 annually. This role is also eligible for various benefits, including medical/dental/vision, insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and other benefits in accordance with applicable plan documents. Benefits for Union represented employees will be in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
