Job Summary

The Laydown Yard Coordinator is responsible for the receiving, storage, organization, and distribution of materials, tools, and equipment within the laydown yard. This role ensures that all materials are properly tracked, safely stored, and readily available for project operations. The position supports construction and logistics teams by maintaining an organized yard and coordinating deliveries and dispatch of materials.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive deliveries of construction materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Inspect incoming shipments for accuracy, damage, and completeness.
  • Load and unload trucks using appropriate equipment.
  • Label and store materials in designated locations within the yard.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient laydown yard.
  • Arrange materials by type, project, or priority for easy access.
  • Ensure materials are stored safely and in compliance with company procedures.
  • Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, telehandlers, or other yard equipment as required.
  • Safely move heavy materials throughout the yard.
  • Perform basic equipment checks and report maintenance needs.
  • Follow all company safety policies and OSHA regulations.
  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Ensure safe storage practices and maintain clear yard access routes.
  • Report safety hazards or incidents immediately.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience in construction, warehousing, or logistics preferred.
  • Forklift certification or ability to obtain certification.
  • Basic computer skills (inventory systems or spreadsheets).
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Outdoor laydown yard or warehouse environment.
  • Exposure to weather conditions, heavy equipment, and construction materials.
  • Regular interaction with drivers, suppliers, and construction crews.
