This position reports to:
Engineering Tooling/Machinist (Supervisor)__
Under minimal supervision from the machine shop supervisor, must be able to analyze a variety of specifications, lay out metal stock, set up and operate machine tools, fit and assemble parts to make or repair molds, tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, or mechanical hand tools by applying knowledge of tool design, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, machinery, and assembly procedures. Assist in maintaining production by repairing molds and tooling while keeping tight tolerances. Analyze a variety of specifications. Set up and operate machine tools (lathe, milling machine, surface grinder, drill press, saws). Program HAAS CNC laths and mills. Heat treated steels using shop furnace and understanding how to machine hardened steel.
You will be mainly accountable for:
Safety
- Understands and follows plant safety and procedures
- Avoid or prevent hazardous conditions from developing
- Wears appropriate protective equipment as required, dresses and conducts self in a safe manner
- Keeps work area clean and orderly and maintains Lean 5S
- Participates in plant safety objectives
Job Functions
- Capable of operating open setup mill, lathe and surface grinders
- Proficient in programming CNC lathe and CNC mill
- Repairing molds and tooling while keeping tight tolerances +/-.001”
- Understands how to read engineering drawings
- Fabricate tooling from engineering drawings
- Set up and use a tig welder with a high degree of skill
- Use a variety of hand tools and fixtures
- Cleans and examines tooling for defects
- Verifies dimensions, alignments and clearances, using measuring instruments such as dial indicators, gauge blocks, thickness gauges, and micrometers
- Repairs fixtures as necessary
- Responsible for following all company policies/regulations
- Performs quality checks, interprets and reacts to projects in a timely manner
- Takes proactive ownership and responsibility for product quality after fabrication
- Perform duties as assigned by supervisor or team leader
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED
- A minimum of 5 - 10 years’ experience or similar environment
- Experience in lieu of education will be considered
- Additional duties may be assigned to meet business needs
- Knowledge and understanding of the various types of production equipment
- Must have good interpersonal skills, able to work with minimal supervision to meet department goals
- Good mechanical/electrical abilities
- Good communication skills & Interpersonal skills
- Ability to read blueprints
- Injection molding skills
Skills and/or Training
- Ability to communicate, read, write, and understand various written instructions in English
- Bend, twist & turn in a safe manner
- Lift up to 40 Pounds
- Stand for long periods
- Good hand dexterity
- Strong math skills
