The Application Scientist – Synthetic Biology is responsible for compliant biosecurity screening of custom nucleic acid sequences while delivering pre‑ and post‑sales technical support for synthetic biology products.

This position reports to the Sr. Manager, Scientific Applications Support and is part of Scientific Applications Support department and will be fully remote.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Communicate with and support customers, in a timely manner, to provide pre- and post-sales technical support for a growing Synthetic Biology product offering. 
  • Answer Synthetic Biology-related customer inquiries received by phone, email, and chat and document all customer interactions in IDT’s Customer Relationship Management (CRM) database.
  • Troubleshoot product use and applications by using customer provided data and information, as well as IDT sales and manufacturing databases. 
  • Support the complaint triage and investigation process and assist with complaint resolution by determining the cause of the problem, selecting, and explaining the best solution to solve the problem, and expediting resolution to the customer’s satisfaction.
  • Provides custom screening, design, and optimization of customers’ DNA sequences, while ensuring compliance with IDT’s Biosecurity policies.

The essential requirements of the job include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in life sciences (Biology, Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry) or related scientific field
  • 5+ years of experience with genomics applications in an industry or academic research laboratory environment
  • Advanced understanding of DNA structure, cloning, molecular biology, and genetics, as well as experience with DNA search and design tools such as BLAST, DNA*, Primer3, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data, identify key issues, and solve problems using critical thinking skills
  • Excellent communications skills

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

  • M.S or Ph.D. in a relevant scientific discipline (biology, biochemistry, molecular biology) is preferred.
  •  2+ years of experience as a Scientific Applications Scientist or in a customer-facing scientific support role preferred.
  •  Working knowledge and/or experience supporting biosecurity screening
