The Department of Physical Therapy is currently seeking a full time Physical Therapist 1 to work in Plantation, FL. The Physical Therapist I provides physical therapy and wellness services to patients and clients who have impairments, functional disabilities, or changes in physical function and health status resulting from injury, disease or other causes. Moreover, this employee helps patients and clients restore function, improve mobility, relieve pain, and prevent or limit permanent physical disabilities. The Physical Therapist I collaborates with healthcare teams that include physicians, occupational therapists, and psychologists.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Evaluates new patients, establishes goals, and develops appropriate treatment plans.

  • Documents all evaluations, treatments, and other pertinent patient interactions on a daily basis. Educates patients and families regarding medical conditions and provides instructions for home activities.

  • Communicates with physicians and their staff to obtain necessary information and suggests revisions in treatment.

  • Utilizes treatment tools and equipment in a safe and effective manner.

  • Maintains a satisfactory level of productivity and demonstrates willingness to adjust personal schedule in case of crisis or real clinic need.

  • Participates in quality and safety improvement activities.

  • Orients, instructs, and directs work activities for assistants and support personnel.

  • Utilizes appropriate methods and materials for learning programs, monitors effectiveness, and adapts programs accordingly.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS                                                                                        

Education:

Doctoral degree in physical therapy preferred; Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees accepted

Certification and Licensing:

Licensure in physical therapy

Experience:

Experience preferred, but not required

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.

  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.

  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and according to HIPPA requirements.

  • Ability to work evenings, nights, weekends and holidays as necessary.

  • Commitment to the University’s core values.

  • Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.

Department Specific Functions

Use of Department Specific Tools and Equipment:

  • Walker, crutches, cane, wheelchair, lift equipment, hospital beds, commodes, goniometer, traction units, ultrasound machine, electrical stimulation machines, iontophoresis, vasopneumatic pump, cuff weights, pulley weights, isokinetic exercise equipment, and general office equipment (telephone, computer, facsimile machine and copier).

  • Electronic Medical Record and multiple related software programs and tools
