The Opportunity
We are seeking a Senior Computational Fluid Mechanics/Dynamics Engineer to join our established and highly regarded CFD team, contributing to the delivery of complex and technically challenging projects across multiple market sectors including Buildings/Defence, Water, and Transport.
As a senior member of the team, you will play a key role in delivering high‑quality computational and physical modelling solutions, working alongside experienced engineers within our national Engineering Sciences group. You will contribute to project delivery from concept through to completion, ensuring technical rigour, innovation, and value for our clients.
This role offers an excellent opportunity for a technically strong senior engineer who enjoys hands‑on modelling, complex problem‑solving, and supporting the growth of both people and capability.
In this role, you will:
Lead our Blast Modelling capability
Support delivery of deliver CFD and related modelling components on complex projects
Work closely with project managers, technical leads, and clients to ensure on‑time, high‑quality outcomes
Apply advanced modelling techniques across gas and liquid systems, including multiphase flows
Utilise our in‑house cloud‑based high‑performance computing (HPC) facility and a broad suite of advanced software tools
Contribute to technical innovation, including exploring new modelling approaches, tools, and research directions
Support proposal development and contribute to identifying future project opportunities
Assist and support junior engineers where needed
Collaborate across disciplines, contributing to integrated project outcomes
Contribute with the team through technical presentations, internal knowledge sharing, and selected industry engagement
Qualifications and Experience
To be successful, you will bring:
Extensive blast modelling expertise to support and grow our capability
Experience in engineering consulting, ideally with exposure across Buildings/Defence, Water, and/or Transport sectors
Strong experience in computational fluid dynamics, with exposure to physical modelling considered an advantage
Post‑graduate qualifications (PhD, Masters, or equivalent) preferred but not essential
Demonstrated ability to deliver complex technical work autonomously and as part of a team
Experience mentoring junior engineers or contributing to team capability development
Confidence engaging with clients on technical matters
Experience working with gas and liquid systems, including multiphase flows
Proficiency with computational tools, including: Open‑source platforms (e.g. OpenFOAM, FastEDDY) & Commercial packages (e.g. ANSYS)
Experience working within cloud‑based HPC environments
Strong coding and scripting skills to support modelling workflows
Ability to hold or obtain a Defence clearance
