Site Context – Seneffe, Belgium

The Seneffe site is a key European manufacturing and laboratory hub within Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Laboratory Chemicals Division. The site operates in a highly regulated GMP environment, supporting the production and distribution of critical chemical and laboratory products used in scientific research and healthcare applications.

Seneffe is a fast-paced, compliance-driven environment where safety, quality, and operational excellence are essential. The site operates under strict regulatory frameworks including ISO standards, environmental regulations, and internal global EHS policies.

Position Overview

As Senior Manager of Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS), you will play a critical leadership role at the Seneffe site, driving the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of EHS and sustainability programs.

You will act as the site’s primary EHS expert, ensuring full regulatory compliance while building a strong safety culture across manufacturing, laboratory, warehouse, and office operations.

This is a strategic leadership role with responsibility for shaping EHS direction, managing risk, leading incident prevention, and supporting operational excellence in a complex GMP manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

EHS Strategy & Leadership

  • Develop and implement site-level EHS and sustainability strategies aligned with global Thermo Fisher standards
  • Lead the development of a strong safety culture across all functions
  • Act as the main EHS advisor to site leadership and operational teams
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives in safety and environmental performance

Compliance & Regulatory Management

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable EHS regulations (OSHA, EU environmental law, Belgian regulations)
  • Maintain and improve ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems
  • Lead preparation for internal and external audits
  • Ensure compliance with GMP requirements in manufacturing and laboratory areas

Risk Management & Incident Response

  • Manage hazardous materials and waste programs
  • Lead incident investigation, root cause analysis, and corrective and preventive actions
  • Oversee emergency response planning and readiness
  • Ensure proactive identification and mitigation of safety risks

Operational EHS Support

  • Partner with Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, and Operations teams
  • Support safe introduction of new processes, equipment, and materials
  • Oversee workplace inspections, risk assessments, and safety audits
  • Ensure effective PPE, COSHH, and biosafety practices

Training, Reporting & Continuous Improvement

  • Develop and deliver EHS training programs for employees and contractors
  • Monitor and report key EHS KPIs and compliance metrics
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to EHS performance
  • Promote employee engagement in safety and sustainability initiatives

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or related field
  • 6–8+ years of experience in EHS roles within regulated industries (pharmaceutical, biotech, chemical or manufacturing)
  • Minimum 5 years of leadership or management experience
  • Strong knowledge of EHS regulations (EU and/or OSHA standards)
  • Experience with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 systems
  • Proven experience managing hazardous materials and waste programs
  • Experience in GMP or laboratory/manufacturing environments

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional certifications such as CSP, CIH, CHMM or equivalent
  • Biosafety experience
  • Experience in multi-site or global organizations
  • Strong background in change management and organizational transformation
  • Experience with EHS digital systems and reporting tools
