A Traffic Control Technician job is available with the City of Fort Worth CCPD Central Bikes Program. The Central Bikes Program supports patrol operations by providing rapid, high-visibility response in high-traffic and community-focused areas. The team focuses on traffic control, removing abandoned vehicles, and assisting with special events, and assisting Officers with accidents by establishing safety zones and controlling traffic. Traffic Control Technicians play a key part in enhancing mobility, safety, and outreach efforts across the city.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma/GED
- One (1) year of experience related to traffic control, report writing, customer service or related experience
- Valid Texas Driver’s License
- Must pass a Drug Screen, Polygraph Exam and must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check
Preferred Qualifications:
- Basic traffic laws, parking ordinances and point control
- Basic procedures and techniques related to assisting police officers related to traffic control
- Knowledge of equipment and materials related to traffic control
- Customer service or related experience
The Traffic Control Technician job responsibilities include:
- Direct and monitors the flow of vehicle and pedestrian traffic around accidents and stranded motorists, during special events, and at intersections when traffic signals are malfunctioning
- Assists officers in traffic related accidents and tows illegally parked vehicles, abandoned vehicles and vehicles from accident scenes
- Assists stranded motorists and coordinate with other agencies to ensure citizens and their vehicles are moved from hazardous locations on the freeways
- Writes clear and concise reports
- Performs other duties as required
- Adheres to assigned work schedule as outlined in the Department and City attendance policies and procedures; ensures all behaviors comply with the City’s Personnel Rules and Regulations
- Performs parking enforcement related to children and animals left in cars, abandoned vehicles and other parking issues; issues citations as appropriate
- Assist with IPMBA bike schools
- Assist the school resource officer at the Young Women Leadership Academy, 8TH and Jones, with traffic control during the year. During the school year the TCT’s handle traffic control around Bass Performance Hall for school field trips where numerous buses will arrive and affect traffic and cross any children/parents safely to the hall that arrive by private vehicles
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
Some require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling and lifting; depending on assignment. Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, dust, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, intense noises, gases, vibrations, chemicals, oils and workspace restrictions
Heavy Work – Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.
Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) Background Check
Applicants for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, the following will result in being disqualified for this position: Felony Convictions, Felony Deferred Adjudication, Class A Misdemeanor Conviction, Class B Misdemeanor Convictions in the last 10 years, Class A Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication, Class B Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication in the last 10 years, an Open Arrest for Any Criminal Offense (Felony or Misdemeanor), and ALL Family Violence Convictions regardless of class.
