Key Responsibilities

Ensures that specific project and program objectives are defined for areas of responsibility, and that necessary preliminary activities (e.g., determination of outcomes, milestones, viability studies, and resource planning, among others) are completed to allow for effectiveness and focus during later stages of completion.

Ensures that all projects and programs assigned are completed in accordance with predetermined requirements, with specific attention to product/process specifications, project/program costs, resource utilization, and timeliness for completion.

Ensures that all phases of project, program and/or process development are documented and that information required in other functional areas is reported, disseminated, or transferred, as appropriate. Ensures compliance with company policies including (but not limited to) engineering/lab notebooks, patents, confidentiality, ISO, safety and others as required.

Ensures that the utilization of all material and financial resources is carried out in an effective manner.

Effectively assigns work to subordinate staff, providing for professional development in addition to maximum productivity for the area. Responsible for development, support, maintenance and implementation of a large complex project/multiple medium sized projects through a team, utilizing team leads. End to end people management responsibilities for the assigned group.

Spearheads research and development of new technologies, as appropriate, and ensures that newly created processes, designs, and/or methodologies are incorporated into Applied Materials products/services, and/or disseminated to other areas as needed.

Effectively utilizes computing resources for optimization of design development activities and timelines.

Drives the application of principles, theories and concepts and determines the best course of action. Resolves complex problems of department wide operations.

Your Opportunity

As a Senior Algorithms Developer, you will contribute directly to the development of advanced algorithms for XCT inline X-ray products. This role provides the opportunity to work on technically challenging problems at the intersection of imaging, AI, applied mathematics, scientific computing, and production software.

This position provides the opportunity to:

Develop algorithms for next-generation X-ray semiconductor inspection platforms

Work on AI, image analysis, feature detection, 3D reconstruction, and performance optimization

Convert research concepts and prototypes into production-quality software

Contribute to advanced packaging and inline inspection initiatives

Collaborate with global experts in algorithms, systems, hardware, software, and applications

Influence technical direction for analytical pipelines and inspection workflows

Build expertise in semiconductor inspection, X-ray imaging, and high-performance computational software

Roles and Responsibilities

Develop advanced algorithms for X-ray semiconductor inspection and metrology applications.

Work on image processing, computer vision, AI/ML, feature detection, segmentation, classification, registration, and measurement automation.

Develop and improve 3D reconstruction, volumetric analysis, computational geometry, and tomography-related workflows.

Optimize algorithms for accuracy, repeatability, throughput, memory usage, robustness, and production reliability.

Implement algorithms in Python, C#, C++, or other production software environments.

Convert prototype or research algorithms into maintainable, testable, production-quality software.

Work with large X-ray imaging datasets to evaluate algorithm performance, limitations, and failure modes.

Design and implement validation methods, benchmarks, and regression tests for algorithm performance.

Collaborate with global algorithm scientists, software engineers, hardware teams, systems engineers, and field teams.

Support integration of algorithms into equipment software, data pipelines, and inspection workflows.

Participate in technical design reviews, code reviews, debugging, and root-cause analysis.

Contribute to software architecture decisions for analytical pipelines and algorithm deployment.

Document algorithm design, assumptions, limitations, interfaces, and validation results.

Support customer escalations and field investigations related to algorithm behavior or inspection performance.

Our Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a senior hands-on algorithm developer with strong software engineering skills and a solid foundation in applied mathematics, imaging, computer vision, scientific computing, or AI/ML.

The candidate should be comfortable working with complex, real-world data where image quality, noise, artifacts, calibration, throughput, and robustness all affect algorithm performance. The role requires someone who can move beyond prototype development and deliver reliable algorithms that can be integrated into production semiconductor equipment software.

Experience in semiconductor inspection, metrology, X-ray imaging, CT, microscopy, medical imaging, industrial inspection, robotics vision, or similar technical domains is strongly preferred.

Education and Work Experience

Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, applied mathematics, physics, imaging science, or a related technical field.

8–12 years of relevant software, algorithm, scientific computing, computer vision, AI/ML, or image processing experience.

Experience developing algorithms for production systems or complex engineering applications.

Experience working in global, cross-functional engineering teams is preferred.

Required Skills

Strong experience in algorithm development for imaging, inspection, metrology, computer vision, AI/ML, or scientific computing.

Strong programming skills in Python and one or more production software languages such as C#, C++, or similar.

Experience with image processing, feature detection, segmentation, classification, registration, reconstruction, or numerical optimization.

Strong mathematical foundation, including geometry, linear algebra, statistics, signal processing, optimization, or related areas.

Experience working with large image datasets and evaluating algorithm accuracy, repeatability, robustness, and failure modes.

Experience converting research or prototype algorithms into maintainable production-quality software.

Experience with performance optimization, multithreading, parallel processing, or GPU-accelerated workflows.

Ability to design test cases, validation workflows, benchmarks, and regression tests for algorithm performance.

Strong debugging, problem-solving, and root-cause analysis skills.

Ability to work effectively with software, hardware, systems, applications, and field teams.

Clear communication skills and ability to explain complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Additional Qualifications

Experience in semiconductor equipment, inspection, metrology, process control, or advanced packaging.

Knowledge of X-ray imaging, CT, laminography, tomography, microscopy, or other high-resolution imaging systems.

Experience with 3D reconstruction, volumetric analysis, image registration, denoising, artifact reduction, or calibration workflows.

Experience with machine learning frameworks, model training, inference deployment, or AI-assisted image analysis.

Experience with low-dose imaging, sparse data reconstruction, or high-throughput inspection optimization.

Experience with hardware-coupled systems, including imaging detectors, motion systems, sensors, data acquisition, or automation platforms.

Experience with Windows-based development environments.

Experience with C#, .NET, Python scientific computing libraries, C++, CUDA, OpenCV, PyTorch, TensorFlow, NumPy, SciPy, or similar tools.

Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development practices.

Experience working with distributed global teams.
