Key responsibilities
In this position, you will carry out service and project tasks in accordance with clearly defined work instructions and in compliance with ABB standard processes, quality requirements, and safety guidelines. You will work closely with our customers as well as other ABB teams, acting as the on-site technical point of contact. Your solution-oriented approach and ability to prioritize effectively contribute significantly to high customer satisfaction.
This position supports the Process Automation business unit, Division Energy Industries, in the Cottbus region. Your key contacts are customers in the power plant, water, open-pit mining, cement, chemical, and refinery industries, as well as internal service and project teams.
This role is contributing to the Automation business unit, division Energy Industries in Cottbus. Main stakeholders are customers in the power plant, water, open-pit mining, cement, chemical, and refinery industries, as well as internal service and project teams.
You will be mainly accountable for:
- Performing service assignments such as installation, commissioning, maintenance, expansions, upgrades, replacements, and backup & recovery – on-site at the customer's premises or via remote access
- Technical analysis and troubleshooting, including the development of preventive recommendations to avoid future faults
- Planning, coordination, and execution of technical service projects, including schedule tracking and quality control
- Preparation of required materials, spare parts, and tools to ensure smooth service operations
- Technical consulting on suitable service solutions, taking into account ABB standards as well as safety and environmental regulations
- Building and maintaining long-term customer relationships, identifying optimization potential, and developing tailored solutions
- Participation in on-call duty following structured onboarding and training

Qualifications for the role
- Completed degree or technician qualification in automation technology or a comparable discipline (e.g., electrical engineering, computer science, or similar)
- Ideally, initial professional experience as a service, commissioning, or planning technician in an industrial environment – career starters are also very welcome
- Good IT skills (Windows operating systems, hardware, network technology, and cybersecurity) are a prerequisite
- Initial experience with programming languages and virtual machines is helpful for successfully performing the role
- Experience with at least one ABB automation platform (Procontrol P14, Melody, AC 800M) or the ABB control system 800xA is a strong advantage
- Solid knowledge of MS Office applications
- Willingness to travel within the Cottbus, Berlin, Leipzig region (approx. two days per week, occasionally with overnight stays)
- Fluent German and good English skills, both written and spoken
- Class B driving license
