About the role

The Associate Director (AD) of Community Life (Programming) in the Office of Community Life works with the Senior Associate Director (Programming) to design, implement, and evaluate educational and preventative programming and events that promote community living and student success. This role addresses compliance-related issues, including Clery Act and hazing prevention, and fosters collaboration across campus departments. Additionally, the AD engages with students through mentoring, mediation, and conflict resolution, ensuring all programming aligns with Liberty University’s mission, student development theory, and FERPA regulations. The AD works independently, exercising sound judgment, while reporting directly to the Senior Associate Director (Programming) of Community Life and assisting in various areas as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with the Senior Associate Director (Programming) to develop, implement, and evaluate educational and preventative programming and events addressing community living, conflict resolution, student engagement and compliance related initiatives.
  • Serve as a resource for students through mentoring, mediation, and conflict resolution.
  • Contact and correspond with parents when warranted (physical, social, psychological, spiritual, academic, or discipline-related issues) and in accordance with FERPA guidelines.
  • Collaborate and serve as a liaison with faculty, staff, and campus partners to promote and coordinate programming, events, training, and awareness of initiatives.
  • Attend Dean of Students, departmental, official Liberty University meetings, annual training/conferences and professional development as required.
  • Vote on recommendations for student discipline during regular Conduct Review Committee (CRC) meetings.
  • Assist with creating and updating office publications, website content, and social media related to educational and preventative programming.
  • Maintain accurate records of programming activities and student participation.
  • Remain current on best practices, compliance standards, and emerging technologies, processes, and performance benchmarks relevant to programming and student engagement.
  • Participate in on-call rotation during business hours and respond to emergencies as needed.
  • Be acquainted with the Community Standards processes and assist as needed.
  • Act as a Campus Security Authority and Title IX Responsible Employee, complying with the Clery Act and Title IX policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS

Education and Experience

A completed Master’s degree with a concentration in higher education, student development, counseling, pastoral studies, biblical studies, or a related field is required. Well-developed written and verbal communication skills are required. At least one year of mid-level management experience and/or student development-related experience in a leadership or management capacity is required.  Strong working knowledge of educational trends as they relate to higher education is preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work Environment

The working environment in which one will typically perform the essential functions of this position is a climate-controlled office setting.  It is well lighted and the noise level is moderate.      

Driving Requirements

Use of one’s personal vehicle (or LU vehicles) is required for travel in the performance of the essential functions of this position.  Proof of a valid Virginia driver’s license, an acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance is required.
