The Medical Transcriptionist is responsible for transcribing for providers, patient reports, letters, preoperative consultations and medical office notes in a timely manner with a high degree of accuracy. Transcribed reports and dictated material are reviewed for spelling, grammar, clarity, consistency and proper medical terminology. Edits are appropriately made. Where applicable, reference materials are used to verify new medications and to confirm accuracy of report. The Medical Transcriptionist must possess knowledge of medical terminology, pharmacology, anatomy, physiology and diagnostic procedures. This position is also responsible for maintaining lists of patients in numerous clinical trials and sending correspondence to the patients with lab data as well as next steps in the trial. Importantly, the Medical Transcriptionist must adhere to legal requirements for medical report style and confidentiality requirements, strictly abiding by HIPAA.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for transcribing healthcare provider dictated information into Electronic Health Record for provider review and signature.
  • Must have knowledge in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, diagnostic procedures, pharmacology.
  • Enters patient data into computer systems accurately.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Supports and communicates the organizational plan to ensure compliance with all regulatory standards.
  • Work with minimal supervision on assignments.
  • Supports plans, policy and procedures, and initiatives within scope of their departments expectations and role.
  • Other duties may be assigned.


Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/G.E.D. High School Diploma/G.E.D. - required
  • 1-3 years Medical Transcription - preferred
  • Requires knowledge of medical terminology in different areas of specialty, especially those related to Endocrinology (High proficiency)
  • Excellent skills in English usage, grammar, punctuation, and spelling. (High proficiency)
  • Demonstrates knowledge of, and supports, ALBANY MED Health System mission, values, vision (Medium proficiency)
  • Basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology, disease processes, signs and symptoms, medications, and laboratory values (High proficiency)
  • Ability to use designated professional reference material and operate word processing equipment, dictation and transcription equipment, and other equipment as specified (Medium proficiency)
  • Ability to work effectively, independently (High proficiency)
  • MT - Medical Transcriptionist Certification CMTR - Certified Medical Transcriptionist - preferred

Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
