Johnson & Johnson announced plans to separate our Orthopaedics business to establish a standalone orthopaedics company, operating as DePuy Synthes. The process of the planned separation is anticipated to be completed within 18 to 24 months, subject to legal requirements, including consultation with works councils and other employee representative bodies, as may be required, regulatory approvals and other customary conditions and approvals. The Vice President, Litigation & Investigations serves as a senior legal leader responsible for directing global litigation activities, responding to government enforcement actions, and overseeing all internal investigations for DePuy Synthes. This role provides enterprise‑level legal counsel on complex, high‑risk matters and partners closely with executive leadership to protect the company’s people, products, reputation, and financial interests. This is a highly visible role with direct impact on risk mitigation and reputation of the company.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the global litigation and investigations function, including product liability, commercial disputes, employment matters, and government and internal investigations.
Develop and execute litigation and investigation strategies aligned with enterprise risk management and business objectives.
Serve as a trusted legal advisor to senior executives on high‑stakes and highly publicized litigation and government enforcement actions.
Oversee internal and external investigations, ensuring timely, thorough, and compliant processes and outcomes.
Manage and optimize relationships with external counsel, including strategy, performance, and cost management.
Partner with the business and across functions to reduce litigation risk.
Lead, mentor, and develop a high‑performing team of litigation and investigation professionals.
Qualifications
Education
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school (required).
Active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction (required).
Experience and Skills
Required:
Typically requires 14+ years of litigation experience at a senior leadership level.
Extensive experience managing complex, high‑risk litigation, including mass tort and multi-district litigation.
Significant trial and appellate court experience in either complex commercial litigation or product liability matters,
Deep understanding of regulatory, compliance, and risk considerations within a highly regulated industry.
Experience with litigation or internal investigations in a complex global organization.
Exceptional judgment, strategic thinking, negotiation and decision‑making skills.
Excellent people leadership experience, including building and leading high-performing teams.
Preferred:
Prior experience in medical devices, medtech, life sciences, pharmaceuticals, or another highly regulated industry.
Experience with government enforcement matters or False Claim Act, FCPA or Anti-kickback claims.
Experience leading litigation or investigations in a complex global organization.
Background in either a government legal role or in‑house legal environments.
Demonstrated success managing complex matters across multiple jurisdictions.
Other:
Travel: Up to 25% - 30%, domestic and international.
Language: English required; additional languages a plus.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is :
$239,000.00 - $439,300.00Additional Description for Pay Transparency:
Subject to the terms of their respective plans, employees are eligible to participate in the Company’s consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401(k)).This position is eligible to participate in the Company’s long-term incentive program.
Subject to the terms of their respective policies and date of hire, employees are eligible for the following time off benefits:
• Vacation –120 hours per calendar year
• Sick time - 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Colorado –48 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington –56 hours per calendar year
• Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays –13 days per calendar year
• Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year
• Parental Leave – 480 hours within one year of the birth/adoption/foster care of a child
• Bereavement Leave – 240 hours for an immediate family member: 40 hours for an extended family member per calendar year
• Caregiver Leave – 80 hours in a 52-week rolling period10 days
• Volunteer Leave – 32 hours per calendar year
• Military Spouse Time-Off – 80 hours per calendar year
