Job Description

About Redwood Materials

Redwood is localizing a global battery supply chain that seamlessly integrates recovery, reuse, and recycling — keeping critical minerals in circulation and driving the energy transition. Founded in 2017, we’re delivering low-cost and large-scale energy storage and producing battery materials in the U.S. for the first time, all from batteries we already have.

Hardware Test Engineer, Energy Storage

Essential Duties:

As an early member of a new engineering team, you will play a key role in designing and executing tests to support the development of a new product at Redwood Materials. Your responsibilities will span across mechanical, electrical, and software engineering domains to ensure robust product validation. You will be involved in all phases of the hardware development lifecycle, from early design validation and long-term reliability testing to final process validation. This role requires a hands-on, proactive attitude paired with a methodical and analytical approach to problem-solving.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Design, set up, and execute validation tests for a new electromechanical product
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (design, reliability, and abuse engineers) to generate FMEAs and test plans
  • Specify and design physical test infrastructure such as fixtures, sensors, actuators, chambers, and power supplies
  • Develop and maintain test automation tools using Python
  • Conduct failure analysis through teardown and root cause investigations; document and report findings clearly
  • Analyze complex test data, report findings, and drive system enhancements
