Description of Work

The Standards Division is a regulatory agency responsible for enforcing the North Carolina Weights and Measures Act (G.S. 81A), the Gasoline and Oil Inspection Law (G.S. 119), and the LP-Gas Inspection Law (G.S. 119 Article 5).

Duties involve the inspection of vehicle scales used in retail trade; inspection of livestock scales used in the marketing of livestock as required by the Packers and Stockyards Administration of the USDA; inspection of monorail and beam scales; testing of warehouse and portable platform scales; inspection of hopper scales used by DOT; investigation of consumer complaints; and assurance of compliance with the public weighmaster law.

Some overnight travel required.

Territory includes the following counties: Anson, Cabarrus, Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Guilford, Iredell, Mecklenburg, Montgomery, Moore, Randolph, Richmond, Rockingham, Rowan, Scotland, Stanley, Stokes, Surry, Union, Yadkin.

The selected candidate will be required to undergo a pre-employment fitness for duty at the department’s expense.

Must possess a valid NC CDL driver’s license and provide a current DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate.

Recruitment Range: $41,206 - $44,000

  • Ability to communicate both in oral and written form in order to establish and maintain effective working relationships with wholesalers, retailers, and other persons engaged in the use and operation of weighting and measuring devices that are being regulated.  Prefer experience learning and interpreting laws and regulations.

  • Basic computer skills.

  • Ability to do basic math.

  • Ability to lift and carry approximately 50 pounds.

Minimum Education and Experience
