Role Summary

Role Summary

The Principal DevOps Engineer is a senior technical leader responsible for shaping and scaling modern DevOps, platform engineering, and release practices across product teams.
The role is hands‑on and highly influential, focused on automation, reliability, security, developer productivity, and AI‑assisted engineering.

Key Responsibilities

DevOps & Engineering Excellence

  • Own and evolve DevOps standards, CI/CD practices, and SDLC guardrails
  • Champion automation‑first, quality‑driven engineering
  • Act as the DevOps technical authority within squads

CI/CD & Platform Engineering

  • Design and scale secure, reusable, YAML‑first CI/CD pipelines
  • Drive adoption of trunk‑based development, Infrastructure as Code, and progressive delivery (Blue/Green, Canary)
  • Build reusable pipeline frameworks and platform accelerators

Release & Reliability Engineering

  • Lead release planning, risk assessment, deployment, and rollback strategies
  • Ensure systems are observable, resilient, and reversible by design
  • Conduct post‑release reviews and embed continuous improvement

AI‑Enabled DevOps (Practical AIOps)

  • Build custom agents to support development, deployment, and infrastructure pipelines
  • Apply AI‑assisted DevOps to improve productivity and reliability, including: Intelligent pipeline failure analysis, AI‑assisted code, pipeline, and infrastructure reviews, Automated root‑cause analysis using logs, metrics, and traces
  • Drive responsible adoption of AIOps and AI tooling where it delivers measurable value

Cloud & DevSecOps

  • Design and operate secure cloud platforms on Azure (primary) and AWS
  • Embed DevSecOps and policy‑as‑code into CI/CD pipelines
  • Apply strong fundamentals in networking, security, and enterprise environments

Mentorship & Enablement

  • Mentor engineers across Development, QA, and Platform teams
  • Raise DevOps maturity through hands‑on coaching, standards, and guidance

Technologies & Frameworks

  • CI/CD: Azure DevOps (YAML & Classic), GitHub Actions, Jenkins
  • Cloud & IaC: Azure, AWS, Terraform, ARM/Bicep, Puppet
  • Containers & Platform: Docker, Microservices, Kubernetes (AKS/EKS desirable)
  • Automation: PowerShell (strong), Bash
  • AI / AIOps: AI‑assisted DevOps tooling, intelligent observability
  • Security & Data: DevSecOps practices, networking, MS SQL, Windows/.NET

Experience & Expectations

  • 14+ years in product / SaaS engineering environments
  • Proven experience building and scaling DevOps capabilities
  • Strong systems thinking across speed, reliability, security, and cost
  • Ability to influence senior engineers and leaders without formal authority
