About the role
In Partnership with Student Financial Services, Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) is recruiting for a Graduate intern in the Student Success Office. This position will be located on the PVCC Campus at 501 College Drive Charlottesville, Virginia 22902. The candidate must receive federal work study funding from UVA for further consideration.
Position Description:
The Student Success Office provides support for a diverse body of students to complete their academic goals. Without a strong support system many community college students do not earn a college degree! If
you want to make a real difference and get great hands-on experience, this is the job for you. This population includes students who face multiple
barriers to their education such as:
● Prior academic preparation
● Fear and anxiety issues about education
● First generation college
● Time management issues
● Financial barriers
Specific responsibilities and requirements include:
● Working closely with a supervisor and a small team of professionals to counsel and advise students about academic programs, planning and program status.
● A focus on the holistic needs of the student with an emphasis on the practice of positive based practices. This is not an academic advising position!
● Help provide exceptional non-academic support for certain designated classes, run special events, provide workshops, and work with a number of other offices gaining great post-secondary experience.
● Communicate professionally in both written and oral form.
Expectations & Outcomes
In addition to the responsibilities outlined above, the Graduate Intern will be expected to:
● Maintain a schedule of 15 hours per week for the 2026-2027 academic year
● Perform as an integral member of the tight knit student services division of the community college
● Communicate with students through in-person/zoom meetings, by phone or email
● Track students’ academic progress & make necessary appointments
● Develop credible, working relationships with a diverse set of stakeholders
● Be flexible, open-minded, and maintain a positive attitude
● Support the mission of Student Success & make a difference
Compensation:
● $16.00/per hour
● Graduate intern must be eligible for work-study funds.
This is a paid internship position for a Graduate student who receives federal work study funding. All interested candidates should submit a resume and cover letter in Workday for further consideration from the hiring manger.
This position begins August 25,2026 (or when a candidate is selected) and will end May 14, 2027.
