About the role
What You'll Do:
The Bidswitch Data Science team uses cutting-edge technology, advanced statistics, and machine learning to tackle some of the most complex product and algorithmic challenges at Criteo. We help validate and evolve our core traffic-shaping systems while exploring opportunities to push product performance further.
We partner closely with ML Engineers, Product Managers, and backend teams — and we own our work end-to-end: from research and experimentation through to production delivery. This means your work will have real, measurable impact on the product.
The topics we work on include:
Improving the efficiency of our traffic allocation algorithms through data analysis, offline experiments, and model prototyping
Designing and executing A/B tests to validate hypotheses and measure revenue impact
Identifying and quantifying optimisation opportunities across our core ML systems (including pBid, pWin, and traffic-shaping components)
Translating analytical findings into concrete feature recommendations, feeding directly into the product and engineering roadmap
Leverage and contribute to the team's agentic AI toolkit — using LLM-based tools to accelerate analytical workflows and improve team productivity.
Overall, your responsibilities include:
Conduct data-driven research and analysis on large-scale datasets to identify inefficiencies and improvement opportunities in our ML systems
Prototype model ideas and algorithmic improvements — if a prototype shows promise, work with ML Engineers to carry it into production
Define, design, and analyse experiments (offline tests and A/B tests) with statistical rigour
Act as analytical owner of your workstreams: set the research agenda, drive findings to conclusions, and see improvements through to delivery
Communicate findings clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders, including product and engineering teams
What You Won't Do
Build production-grade ML infrastructure or model serving systems — that belongs to the ML Engineering team
Spend the majority of your time on support tickets — this is not a support role. That said, occasional unplanned requests are part of working in a fast-moving product environment
Who You Are:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a quantitative field (Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, or similar)
Strong grasp of statistics and machine learning fundamentals, with an ability to apply them to real-world product problems
Proficiency in Python and SQL for data analysis, modelling, and querying at scale
Curiosity and self-direction — you enjoy defining and pursuing research questions with minimal hand-holding
End-to-end ownership mindset: comfortable taking a problem from hypothesis to delivery, not just producing outputs
Clear communicator: able to explain complex findings to both technical peers and non-technical stakeholders
Fluent English and Russian
Nice to have:
Experience with large-scale or high-volume datasets in a production environment
Familiarity with online advertising concepts (Real-Time Bidding, programmatic, MarTech)
Interest in or experience with agentic AI, LLMs, or building automation tools
Mathematics competition background — a nice signal, but far from a requirement.
We acknowledge that many candidates may not meet every single role requirement listed above. If your experience looks a little different from our requirements but you believe that you can still bring value to the role, we’d love to see your application!
