Manager, Venue Transport Design:
LA28’s Manager, Venue Transport Design, will support efforts to refine, deliver, and operate venue transportation plans across a combination of Games competition and non-competition venues. The role requires complex collaboration across LA28's functional areas and external partners while maintaining credibility and ensuring key milestones are met.
Working within the Transportation Functional Area, this position will coordinate extensively with other internal LA28 Functional Areas, such as Venue Management, Venue Operations, Security, Accreditation, Workforce, Technology, Readiness, Communications, Sustainability, etc. and external partners (public agencies, operators, contractors, and Games delivery partners) to translate the LA28 Transportation strategy into actionable operational plans.
The focus of this role will be on traffic management plans, including plans for temporary traffic control plans, parking and loading zones, and staging areas for vehicles serving Olympic and Paralympic workforce stakeholders as part of LA28’s obligations under the International Olympic Committee’s award of the 2028 Games. This role requires strong operational expertise, the ability to oversee integrated planning efforts, and sound judgment to address complex transport challenges.
The ideal candidate will be proactive, strategic, and highly organized, capable of operating with autonomy while coordinating across multiple Transport subfunctions. The Manager, Venue Transport Design will report directly to a Senior Manager or subfunction Director of Transport and work closely with leaders across LA28’s Functional Areas.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support transportation design aspects of the Event Operating Plan (EOP) development process across a combination of Games competition and non-competition venues, including coordination and alignment across multiple LA28 Functional Areas to ensure transportation operations can support Games delivery.
- The Manager, Venue Transport Design will be expected to direct the conceptual and preliminary design of load zones and bus malls serving the various Olympic bus and automobile fleet elements.
- In coordination with the Director, Venue Transport, support planning and delivery activities with the Security Functional Area and local, county, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to ensure that venue transportation planning aligns with and supports security planning.
- In coordination with LA28's Communications, External Affairs, and other Functional Areas, support communications and outreach to local residents, businesses, and other parties in support of venue transportation plan development.
- Support the expansion of the Venue Transport team to support Games delivery. This includes identifying key roles and responsibilities in the years prior to 2028, as well as identifying key personnel to fill those roles.
- Prepare meeting materials, agendas, minutes, and presentation decks to support the development and refinement of venue transportation plans and systems.
- Assist in providing progress reports and updates to LA28 leadership and/or the IOC related to venue transportation.
- Conduct field reviews and participate in site testing and evaluations for specific components of venue transportation plans and systems.
- Provide guidance to Senior Associates and Associates, ensuring coherent alignment of transport workstreams.
- Support development of training materials and operational documentation required for Games-time teams
Background & Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience in transport design and operations, mobility, logistics, event operations, public sector delivery, planning, or related fields.
- Examples and samples of design work will be required at the interview stage.
- A strong knowledge of transportation design and operations, with a clear track record of successfully coordinating with multiple agencies and stakeholders to deliver complex transportation projects.
- Direct experience managing, delivering, designing, and/or operating transportation operations and/or special event traffic management systems at the local level.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD or other transportation design software required.
- Strong business acumen and project management skills.
- Aptitude for prioritizing and planning multi-stakeholder initiatives, providing direction when needed, empowering others, and removing obstacles to get work done.
- Ability to create effective relationships, influence, and collaborate at all organizational levels and across all partner groups.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to educate others on complex technical concepts, and to lead, facilitate, and present to large and small groups.
- Ability to gather and assess data and produce technical reports and/or slide decks.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint required.
