About the role

As the Director of Engineering, you will oversee a team of Engineering and Maintenance specialists responsible for all engineering operations to ensure the safety and comfort of guests and employees. You will also have responsibility in all aspects of hotel facility and building maintenance including electrical, plumbing, steam, gas, fire & safety, HVAC refrigeration, interior, paint and decorating, and respond to inquiries and problems in an efficient, courteous and professional manner to achieve maximum customer satisfaction while complying with all Four Seasons’ policies.

What you will do

Engineering Operations & Maintenance

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the engineering department, including maintenance, repairs, and upkeep of all hotel facilities, guestrooms, and public areas

  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve preventive maintenance programs to minimise downtime and ensure asset longevity

  • Establish and manage an effective work-order system to ensure timely and efficient completion of maintenance requests

  • Ensure all engineering services effectively support both guest satisfaction and operational needs

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the engineering team, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and excellence

  • Conduct regular training, safety briefings, and performance management activities

  • Promote clear communication and collaboration within the team and across departments

Project Management & Capital Planning

  • Plan, manage, and execute capital improvement projects, renovations, and building upgrades

  • Ensure all projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in accordance with quality standards

  • Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and internal teams to ensure seamless execution

  • Apply structured project management methodologies, including planning, scheduling, and resource allocation

  • Maintain accurate project documentation and completion records

Financial & Budget Management

  • Prepare and manage the engineering budget, ensuring cost-effective operations

  • Monitor expenditures and identify opportunities to optimise costs without compromising quality

  • Support procurement planning, including sourcing of materials, parts, and services

Compliance, Safety & Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with all local regulations, environmental standards, and corporate policies

  • Conduct regular safety inspections and ensure all engineering practices meet required standards

  • Promote a safe working environment and ensure adherence to safety procedures at all times

Sustainability & Continuous Improvement

  • Drive energy-saving initiatives and sustainability programs across the property

  • Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and engineering performance

  • Analyse technical issues and implement effective, timely solutions

Collaboration & Stakeholder Management

  • Work closely with operational departments (e.g., Housekeeping, Front Office) to ensure seamless hotel operations

  • Partner with senior management to align engineering priorities with overall business objectives

  • Collaborate with the Onsite Manager to coordinate daily maintenance and grounds upkeep

Additional Responsibilities

  • Ensure all engineering methods, materials, and practices comply with local regulations and corporate standards

  • Maintain professional communication with guests, team members, and external partners

  • Perform all duties in alignment with company standards and operational expectations

What you bring

  • Minimum of 10 years as engineering professional in hospitality, service or luxury industry

  • A university degree or equivalent experience

  • Project management experience

  • Pre-opening and renovation experience in hotels/resorts in Asia preferable.

  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to identify pattern in data to make recommendations in an environment with competing demands

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Japanese

  • Proactive, hands on and able to operate autonomously
