One position will be filled through this posting: 60029367, which is in PMU’s Team C, supporting Division 7,9 and 10. This position will reside in Raleigh, NC with minimal travel to the project site.
The Project Management Unit (PMU) is a high performing unit that delivers quality and innovative projects to the citizens of North Carolina. We recognize the importance of making sure our employees feel valued, respected, and challenged to grow in their professional career.
We are looking for an experienced and proactive Project Manager skilled in delivering high-quality transportation projects, from concept to construction. This includes working closely with Divisions, discipline leads, and other internal and external stakeholders to understand the project needs and challenges, as well as removing obstacles, solving problems, and leading multidisciplinary teams.
As the Project Manager, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality projects on time and on budget and developing strong multidisciplinary relationships.
In this role, you will:
•Independently coordinate project delivery activities across multiple disciplines throughout the preconstruction phase (including environmental studies, design, special provisions, quantities, and final plans).
•Proactively manage the scope, schedule, budget, and risk for STIP and Non-STIP projects.
•Oversee private engineering firms on external projects.
•Ensure the overall quality of deliverables meets department expectations.
•Provide design related support during the Construction phase.
•Effectively communicate and collaborate with unit staff, project team members, the Division, and stakeholders to provide updates, discuss and resolve issues, and drive progress in achieving project milestones.

Salary Grade and Salary Range: NC20 $70,478 - $123,336
Management prefers applicants with the following:
- Experience overseeing and managing complex transportation projects and developing/managing project scope schedule, budget, quality and project risks.
- Knowledge of professional engineering principles and practices of civil engineering, as related to Highway Design with an emphasis on project planning, environmental studies and analysis, project designs, construction and maintenance methods, as they apply to the Project Delivery Process.
- Experience leading teams to apply engineering principles to difficult and complex environmental and design situations, making sound recommendations and decisions and providing guidance in designs.
- Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams and fostering communication with Senior Leadership, stakeholders, citizens, and among the project team members.
- Knowledge of Professional Engineering contracts and the ability to understand scoping, estimating and negotiating contracts.
Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Requirements
May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
