About the role   

An opportunity has arisen at our Kawerau Site for three Tissue Manufacturing Cadets. This role is to develop a pool of future operators to reduce overtime for leave cover, succession planning for operational roles, provide an entry point to the Tissue making industry and to enhance papermaking skills to ensure business continuity.

What You Will Do:

  • Learn the fundamentals of papermaking through structured self‑study modules, supported by experienced papermakers.

  • Complete module assessments by presenting your knowledge to the mill management team.

  • Progress into entry‑level roles on shift, at the pulpers and KPM3, building capability and proficiency on the job.

  • Gain sign‑off from senior operators once you demonstrate the required knowledge, skills, and performance.

  • Be deployed on shifts as needed once signed off, with higher pay rates when covering trained roles.

  • Career progression opportunities may become available as vacancies arise, based on performance and business needs

About You

  • Minimum of NCEA Level 3, English, Maths and Science

  • Must be available to work shift work (rotating rosters)

  • Must be able to work collaboratively in a team environment, be reliable and conscientious, willing to learn and handle challenges and pressure, with energy and enthusiasm.

  • Must be computer literate

  • Must have crane and forklift licences, or the ability to obtain them                 

Preferred, but not essential:        

  • Technical or Trade Qualification

  • Previous experience in an industrial environment (understanding of H&S requirements and hazards and ability to work in such an environment)

                             

All applicants will be required to undergo a variety of aptitude assessments. You will need the right to work in New Zealand and to be happy to complete a police check and pre-employment drug & medical assessment as part of the recruitment process.

The terms and conditions for this role will be available upon request but are covered under the Pulp & Paper Collective Agreement.
