EMPLOYMENT RELATIONSHIP: Just cause subject to a probationary period
CURRENT HOURS AND STARTING TIME: Full-time (37.5 hours per week) position. The starting time for this position is 8:00am – 4:30pm
GENERAL SUMMARY
The employee in this classification, under the direct supervision of the Hearing and Vision Supervisor, screens children in Macomb County to detect possible vision and/or hearing defects, prepares public information, referrals, appropriate record keeping, assisting at otology clinics, and/or transporting equipment. Acts as a mentor to newly trained technicians. Assists Supervisor in daily operation of hearing and vision services countywide. Processes Medicaid billing for services rendered and performs other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists in scheduling annual equipment maintenance; provides necessary follow-up.
Assists in the coordination of otology clinics.
Assists with the input of Medicaid billing for all 3–6 year olds.
Coordinates the mentorship and onboarding of newly trained part-time technicians.
Provides direction to staff to ensure screening services in schools and daycare centers align with MDHHS protocols.
Lifts, carries, sets up and takes down screening equipment.
Conducts hearing and vision school-based screenings as instructed, and according to, established policies and procedures.
Conducts both hearing and vision screenings by office appointment over summer months.
Assists in interpreting results to parents and caregivers and initiates appropriate referrals.
Conducts follow-up screening for students as necessary following established policies and procedures.
Completes and submits appropriate forms and/or reports.
Assists in reconciling monthly school screening reports with EHR.
Attend annual training as required by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Department (MDHHS).
Complies with Michigan Child Protection Law 1975, PA 238, MCL 722.621 as a mandated reporter.
Operates standard office equipment such as personal computers, facsimile machines, copiers, scanners, calculators and adding machines.
Operates an automobile while performing assigned job duties.
Performs related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education and Experience
Possession of a high school diploma or a certificate of successful completion of the General Educational Development Test
Currently trained by the State of Michigan to conduct Hearing and Vision screenings
Preferred Education and Experience
Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Public Health or related field
A minimum of five (5) years of experience and/or training which provides required knowledge and ability to function as a Hearing and Vision Technician
Required Licenses or Certifications
Possession of a valid Michigan driver’s license, operable automobile, and insurance
